Just randomly found this ebay listing: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/100-Carbon-Fiber-MTB-Road-Bike-Cycling-Cushion-Saddle-Bicycle-Matt-Glossy-Seat/162636340898?hash=item25dde19ea2:m:mIms0JM_4dt52RuM3_Wut8g

Full carbon seat at 100g weight for £15 quid. Too good to be true. Similarly looking branded seats are going for £150+.

What is the catch here? Anybody tried these? Are they going to fall apart under my bum?

Are they going to fall apart under my bum?

And then the seatpost goes up your bum... 😯

Seatpost up your bum and carbon splinters all over your buttocks... Is this going to happen?

I've not got that one but I have got a generic, £12 carbon saddle and have done maybe 500 miles on it. It's light, 109g if memory serves, it's surprisingly comfortable and it doesn't creak. I'd not want to ride a century on it but it's perfectly OK for for short, sharp rides. It's very slippy though so may they may not be for you if you like to feel locked into 1 position.

whats the worst that could happen?

oh...hang on...

Probably fine, if not you will probably see/feel the failure before anything really sinister happens and your lose you virginity for the second time.

Buy 2nd hand Selle Italia SLR, strip the leather off, <120g with proper seat rails and significantly less chance of CSS (carbon sphincter shred).

Imagine if the worst happened when you were re-mounting at pace in a cx race 😯

Yeah, cheap, carbon and seat are three words you never want to describe anything that's going to be ANYWHERE near your balls.

@slimjim78 Nice, not seen CSS abused in that way!
Done that kinda crap with proper seats back in my student days. The seat without a leather was very uncomfortable and I replaced it after a day of use.

I've used both, but TBH, the std version is only 135g with leather so seems like the perfect lightweight compromise.
Can regularly be sourced for £25-£30 in mint condition - I always have one handy for a weight weenie crisis'.

OOC, what makes you think this cheap chinese jobbie will be any more comfortable?

Nothing. Did not even think about the comfort yet. It is cheap enough to try for a day and throw away, but CSS is a bigger concern now!

I've ridden cheap Chinese carbon bars/frames/forks for probably 5000+ miles without an issue, so I'd be perfectly willing to try a saddle - though I know that design is too slippy for me, whether it's a £150 or a £15 version...

Yes. Ones with ti rails though so they'd fit my dropper.

Lasted two rides then the rails bent. That was on a rigid bike and I weigh over 15 stone.

I'd imagine a lighter rider and/or on a full suss they'd be fine.

It was comfy which was a surprise.
