Superstar and Discobrakes both offer cheap braided hoses. has anyone tried either of these? Perhaps on an Avid Juicy. Interested to know if you get to keep the bleed screw through the caliper bolt or if that gets replaced by other bits in the kit.
Standard Avid plastic hose is £40 per end! Even Goodridge would be cheaper.
I just visit my lbs and pay £5 per meter for hope or goodridge and re-use the old connectors or purchase the ones I need individually. Look at Jagwire as maybe cheaper but is good quality.
I do similar for my Hope brakes but this is a set of Juicy brakes on the wife's bike. The caliper banjo is not reusable on those as it's crimped on.
I went for the Clarks hose for my Juicy 7's - the hose has caliper banjos crimped on to both ends. Just need to cut hose for F & R hose. I picked it up sub £20 at CRC.
You still can if you are ok with pink!

Cheers, I did have a look at that stuff. (She really doesn't like the pink). I assume you kept the easy bleed caliper bolt then. Have you noticed any difference compared to the original stuff? Is it noticeably more or less flexible under braking?
Fairly certain I kept the original bleed bolt. The Clarks kit came with 4 small o rings, 4 olives & 4 hose retaining nuts (to secure hose onto brake lever). I just reused the originals though.
I can't tell the difference in performance between the original & aftermarket hoses. I've still got some 5's on original hoses & there appears to be no difference in flexibility to the clarks hoses on 7's.
Cheers mate, that's pretty much what I wanted to hear.
I've been using HEL for making up new lines.
Dunno if they are 'cheap', but the kits are very versatile, so you can mix and match stuff if you need to. I'd got the advantage of them being ~45 minutes away, so if I've needed stuff I've called in, and they have always been very helpful ...
(no connection etc).
I've had the Clarks ones on my ST4 for about 15 months now, not had any problems whatsoever.
HTH.
Thanks guys. Like the sound of the Hels but I was looking to pay about that for the whole bike rather than per end.
