I've removed the split-pin, taken out the old pads, put in the new ones and springy bit but now can't get the split pin back through. Is there a knack to it? I know all the bits are lined up as I can get a screwdriver through the hole.
Brakes are M575's, if that helps?

Usually just a case of doing some wiggling, make sure the split pin is straight and squeezed together.
squeeze together and wiggle - you'll get there eventually!
Thanks for the advice. I was squeezing and wiggling for about 10 minutes but not getting anywhere so thought I must be doing something wrong! I'll give it another bash later.
might help to squeeze together with pliers to make sure the ends are closed then get a thin screwdriver to part the pin once its through
Bend the end in with some pliers, push it through then bend the end out again.
Push the pistons completely back into the caliper, and then the pad/pin sandwich should be really loose in the gap and in insertion should be easy. Don't forget to pump the lever to get the pads to rest somewhere near the disk before you ride off (very easily done, quite scary!).
Yep, what glenp said. Use a tyre lever to push the roud pistons back in, then there should be loads of room to get the new pads in. Bending stuff with pliers not necessary.
Thanks for all the tips. Only problem is it's not my bike and I'm trying to do it at work, where the one tool I have is a small screwdriver. We're meant to be meeting up to ride after work so I'll try the tyre lever/piston method then, and take some pliers as a backup....
