A forumista has been good enough to sell me a turner 5 spot with push rockers and shock up to 6” and I must say I’m made up with it and it rides a treat. Problem is that I was only really after a 5” bike so as the other rockers were also enclosed I was thinking of putting them back on instead.
Can anyone give me the lowdown as to what the difference might be? The turner rockers look a bit thinner, would there be noticeable flex difference. Are the shorter rockers going to shorten the bike any making the ride feel different?
Cheers all.
Wheel base will remain static, the old rockers will drop the travel and drop the BB a bit. I don't think you'll notice any flex.
The PUSH rockers are good, but they can make the shock a tinsy bit 'trapdoor-y'. I'm happy to leave mine on.
my HL 5spot has the original rockers on it.. I've never felt the need to have more travel of thought the bike was flexey.
If you do change them over it might be a good time to shove in a new set of bushings.
Out of interest what shock has it got??
It all depends what fork you want to run, and what bb height you want to run.
With 140mm forks such as Pikes, I think the stock rockers are better. They give a slacker head angle. Anything shorter fork-wise then def the stock rockers. They are pretty easy to change, so you've nothing to lose.
Whilst the HL Spot isn't warranteed for longer forks, I figured it's a bombproof frame, so currently have mine built up with Marz Z1 Lights (150mm travel) and the Push rockers, which is a very nice combination.
I made the Push conversion on mine and didn't notice any particular increase in stiffness over the regular rockers, just more usable travel.
I didn't experience the 'trapdoor-y' feeling either, although mine had a Romic coil fitted so not sure if that makes a difference.
If you do choose to change back to the old ones, you'll need the old bush kit as well, if that wasn't included.
I'm running an RP3 but also have the original romic in the box with the rockers.
I'm running Pikes on the bike and I thought the headangle was just right with the push rockers, the thought of a slacker head angle isn't one I relish, I prefer mine a little bit sharper than average.
Ditch the RP3, I know the Romic is HEAVY and not particularly fashionable but set up right it'll out perform air any day.
Coil's the future! I swapped a RP23 off my Orange 5 for a Cane Creek and it made a world of difference.
I have ridden a coil shock before and now the differenece in feel but sadly the romic's colour doesn't match the look and I'm a massive tart. 😀
Jon,
Glad you are feeling the love for the bike, I certianly enjoyed it.
The push rockers were on there 50% because I could and 50% to plant the front wheel as it became a little wayward on the steeper climbs.
Loads of options to play with.... 5 or 6 inch, air or coil, lots of different things to try!
Keep enjoying.

Spits coffee over desk in disbelief.
Massive tart indeed!! 😉

Cheers Harry, I'm very much loving the bike and was quite suprised how quickly I was getting up the hills; either it climbs well or I'm fitter than I thought.

Although I did see someone out on a Titanium rigid, 29er SS and thought if he isn't a STWer I'll eat my hat.
You need the same size top hats as the bottom ones for the shock and a nut and bolt for the top as well, and also a lower spring rate or less air as the stock rockers give a lower leverage ratio than the push rockers, (3-1 push, 2.5-1 stock) I've ran both and I prefer the stock rockers with a 130-140 fork
I had the 5.5 Turner rockers in preference to the PUSH rockers. They were notably stiffer, and I felt the front end was fine with air pikes matched to a pushed RP3.
I split the bike and sold all the nice kit for the cash and I'm going back to the old rockers and a coil nixon matched to a Pushed VanR - this version will be a superplush trail bike! I've gone 1x9 and stripped the paint to take a bit more weight off and compensate for the coils.
Scienceofficer how difficult was it to strip those stays ?
Easy!
It was a little fiddly in the machined areas, but a cut down, shaped toothbrush did the job. The bulk of it dropped off after a 10 minute soak in green nitromors.
When she's complete I'll post up a pic or two. I'm still waiting on a shock spring.
Cheers, was curious how easy they'd strip
I prefered mine with the original rockers 5.1" and 130mm forks than with 140mm Pikes and 5.5 rockers.
