Just got a RS7 Middleburn off here, ATB not compact drive. Fitting it to my Dekerf, with a 113mm axle (Middleburn's recommended axle length), the rings are perilously close to the stay.
I've a spare 118mm bb so have popped that in, and the chainline looks spot on for middle ring and middle of the cassette.
So am I ok with this? And is the correct chainline what actually looks right, rather than the advised axle length from Middleburn?
Also, the Middleburn chainrings seem to sit closer to the stay than on my old old XT chainset - any thoughts why? Would a CD set up help?
Thanks
Seeing as most chainstays point outwards towards the rear, larger rings will obviously run closer with the same chainline. The 113mm BB will give a47.5mm chainline which was the old "standard", a 118m will give a 50mm which seems to be the norm now so shouldn't give any real problems other than an older front mech may not like shifting the extra few mm (newer ones don't always like it the opposte way).
