Hi,

I've a question about chains please.

So, I usually get through three chains for every rear casette (I guess my personal rule of thumb).

I've always replaced each chain with same as previous one to help reduce unnecessary wear of the rear cassette.

Do you think this really matters? Am I being too particular and actually any brand chain could be used and it wouldn't make any difference to the wear\fitting into the chain set system?

Thanks for any replies and advice...

I have 2 chains on my hardtail that I rotate regularly. Take one off, clean it lube it and have it ready and then when the one on needs a bit of TLC I have one ready to go straight on. Slows down the wear on the rest of the drivetrain that is related to chain wear.

Seems sensible to be honest. Two is probably enough, but if you're happy with it, why change?

Get a chain measuring tool, swap when it reads too much. Heading to 2 years and a lot of use on my current drive train.
