Hi folks, any help please?

I'm just about finished building my Surly LHT.

I've fitted a 9 speed Deore cassette and an 9 speed LX chain, but there doesn't appear to be enough room for the chain on the smallest sprocket.

I'm confused as to why? Can I use a spacer on the axel to give me the little room I need?

1st picture is chain on smallest sprocket:

this on is chain on 2nd smallest sprocket:

cheers

You've not left a spacer on the hub before putting the cassette on?

What type of axle is it?
If it's the type that uses cones and locknuts, then the position of the hub (left to right along the axle) can be adjusted by moving the cones.

Can we have a picture of the clearance at the other end of the axle?

Right.

I just managed to read your replies then stw died again (becoming an all too familiar issue).

I took more photo's but in my impatience I decided to adjust the axel spacing. In the process of which, I discovered how simple it is to service a shimano hub....easy peasy! So now the chain is running fine on the smallest sprocket and my grumbling LX hub has been given a new lease of life!

Thanks again STWers you have provided me with invaluable knowledge.

Await pics of my new steely steed once it's complete!

Thanks again
