Hook the top left bit into a chainlink & pivot the other end into the chain - it won't go in on a new chain, it will go in a part worn chain in the .75 position, this means your chain needs replacing soon, if you flip it over & it fits in the 1.0 position, the wear might have caused wear to the cassette.

Ahh I wondered what the numbers meant. If they had just stamped "a bit worn" and "bugg3red" I'd have worked it out myself!
