The DHX5 on my Turner is reasonably shagged - I can get it a replacement or perhaps upgrage to a coli.
Anyone got recommendations (and, crucially sizings I'd need for a replacement)?
send your dhx to TF for a push tune and a service which costs probably £120
Turner recommended the Double Barrel as "high zoot" (WTF) when I asked the same question. OR the RP23 as it just works really well.
Cheeky Monkey:
Check out "zoot suit", in fact all things zoot...
A Pushed DHX will give you 95% plus of the performance of a CCDB, at a fraction of the price, and you can get it serviced, and repaired pretty much anywhere. Unless you especially like dealing with morons, your CCDB will need to go back to the States to be serviced/fixed.
Contrary to popular belief, a Double Barrel will not turn you into a riding god, nor will it make a trail velvety smooth or make your bike pedal like a hardtail. They also cannot cure AIDS and cancer.
There are some decent objective reviews of the CCDB, and the BOS compared to standard, and tuned mainstream shocks out there. The over-riding opinion is they are better (if set up correctly), but by no where near the massive margins that some have suggested.

You could get into a terribly semantic debate here, but having had and used both extensively, over both DH and trail use, my own experience is that the 'feel' of the CCDB is vastly better than the feel of the Pushed DHX.
By feel I mean the following:
Far better control of the bike of rapid large square edge hits which meant I could carry far more speed, brake later and exit corners faster.
Better suspension performance meant better grip and more speed through the corners.
Far better ability to balance low and high speed compression/rebound so that you can set the bike up to pedal very well and provide you with a firm feel in the low speed compression that allows you to more effectively pump the bike through the trail, which in turn means more speed.
I can't give objective data as to whether the increase in performance is more than 5% better than that of a Pushed DHX because I am not sure how one would measure the margin in the first place, but what I can say is that it feels more like a 20% difference in terms of speed.
To illustrate the point (and I realise that this is not objective by any means), last year I rode a particular section of trail in Chamonix on my DH bike, with a Pushed DHX. This year I rode it on my AM bike with a CCDB. This years 'felt' a heck of a lot faster than last year. I felt I was hitting sections far faster, taking smoother lines, accelerating faster out of turns and over obstacles.
So while I think it's right to be more objective about the CCDB's performance, I also think that it will do more to make a trail feel smooth and your bike pedal a lot better than other dampers I've tried and in terms of performance it really is a big step forward.
There's a decent review of the CCDB vs Bos Stoy and DHX here:

I wouldnt bother mate. Your Frame is due to crack next year anyway on its fifth birthday.
I recently switched to a CCDB and it F'ing rocks 🙂
geetee1972, ultimatly it's down to your personal perception, and having ridden with a CCDB, a Stoy & now an RC4, I can say from my personal perception, it doesn't make that much of a difference.
When I switched from a DHX to DB, I didn't gain any speed, nor from that to the Stoy, and since swapping frames to one now with an RC4, I haven't subsequently slowed down (well, apart from race run crashes).
Whether 'feel' directly relates to outright speed is of course a question open for debate. The acid test for me is with a lot of DH racers. The guys on CCDB's and BOS kit arn't any quicker than anyone else. If you're fast, you're fast. Spunking £600+ on a shock isn't going to make any real term difference to your riding over a Push tune.
Personal opinion of course. 🙂
It would appear that 'High zoot' would mean excessively over the top. CCDB seems to be the new Fifth element shock -remember the hype over those bags o shite?
Lol at lowey! 😆
I don't think nickf will be DH racing on his 5 spot, I could be wrong!
Anyway, I've got both DHX and CCDB; the CCDB has noticeably more traction when climbing.
Also the CCDB allows more fine tuning than a DHX.
This is not for racing; simply put, I need to spend about £200 at a minimum to get my rear shock rebuilt. I've never been all that happy with the air shock, so I want to go to coil anyway, so the thought of perhaps spending £4-500 for a secondhand CCDB seems like a reasonably sensible decision.
What size shock do I need, anyway? Could be that my options are limited and that a CCDB wouldn't fit in any case.
7.5" eye to eye with a 2" stroke or 190mm x 50mm

Absolutely, this is what I was hinting at also. For me, i.e. my perception, is that it feels a lot faster, but I can't be sure that it really is faster.
The problem is that you've got a heck of a lot of variables to isolate in order to really know, plus as you say, if you're fast, you're fast and likely whatever your suspension is doing, you can adapt for or compensate.
I do love what mine does for my bike though and given that I'm not racing, I'm happy to have it there and enjoy what it does.

Second hand DHX5 coil at ~£100 & £120 on a Push tune/service. Sorted.
Spend the other £200 on a skills course/beer.
If you do want one, but can't find one in the right size, buy the next size up, Cane Creek will reduce the i2i as part of a service.

+1 for the push'd VAN R
