When the weather finally dries out and there's not so much salt on the roads (LOL!), the road bike will be out for some training.

Those of you who have one - do you reckon its worth upgrading to a carbon seatpost? - for comfort mainly, not too bothered about the weight thing.

If so, what do you have? The FSA SL-K seems cheap, but would it be any less comfortable than a £100 post? Is the extra £££ for less weight?

Cheers

a bad carbon post is more comfy than a alu post, but a good carbon post is worth its weight in gold! Pave is supposed to be good as Justa said, i cant fit one on mine tho as ive got a Time and it would be a sin to run anything other than a time post ;0)

If you run an inline and 27.2 try a superstar one, they are dirt cheap.

Layback I'm afraid! That SS logo looks bloody awful though!!

Do you notice the reduction in buzz? Is it less fatigue in your back you notice?

just swapped from a Pave to a Thomson layback on the roadie and you can tell straight away it's not as comfy. I love Thomsons but the carbon is going back on once the weather perks up.

Pave is great and I have one on my tourer. I just wish they'd make it in bigger diameters.

As justa says the pave can have an amazing effect. I've got one on my rather harsh aluminium training bike and the improvement in comfort was dramatic !, well worth it.

Carbon posts are much more comfortable than aluminium, but much depends on post diameter. Granted, you can't do much about it, but I've had 26.8 and 30.9 in the same type of post (EC70), similar length sticking out of the frame. The 30.9 was comfier than aluminium but the 26.8 had me checking my back tyre all the time for a flat!

I like EC70s and 90s BTW.

My specialized road bike came with a "carbon" post, which is just a cosmetic wrap over an aluminium post!

Many are. It means the alu can be thinner and the carbon makes it stronger. very common for stems and bars too.

i have an ec90 with the carbon clamp it's more comfortable than the carbon composite post i had before.
not all so called carbon posts are proper carbon, composite ones just have a carbon wrap on the outside and i guess a fiberglass tube inside?

What about titanium? I have a USE Ti post, that's going to go on my racer, when I get around to sorting it out.

Any thoughts on Ti posts?

Thing is, the frame is not 'compact', so there's not a lot of seatpost sticking out. More traditional design. So I don't think that material will make too much difference tbh, or am I wrong?

Indeed - it'll be going on my Ribble horizontal top tube, so not a lot of exposed post - does it make a difference? (probably similar amount to the De Rosa)
