I am looking for a full carbon summer bike to complement the steel Genesis Equilibrium disc that I have been using for the last few years. I would like something that would feel more responsive and encourage me to push on more. My riding is fast club run once a week, normally a slightly more social club run and a longer weekend ride 50 to 60 miles. I do like a few hilly 100 mile sportives in the year so want it to be able be comfortable for upto 7 hours in the saddle.

I am pretty sure I would have gone for a Giant defy composite but don't really want discs as it adds quite a bit of weight to the wheels reduces choice and I have a winter / horrible weather bike with disc's already. I will try the bike before I buy but just after suggestions of what to look out for. I am also happy with second hand my budget is upto £2200.

I wouldn't let disks put you off.

Cannondale Synapse, Specialized Roubaix and others have a more relaxed "sportive" geometry. Look for longer headtubes, vibration dampening (like Zertz).

I just put together a Canyon for about a third of your budget, so £2200 should buy you something amazing. The Canyon probably ticks all of your boxes; bit boring though. I wouldn't bother with discs, you'll get a lighter, faster bike with rim brakes.

2nd DTF - I wouldn't bother with discs either, I've got two disc road bikes and neither feel as quick as the rim braked bikes I have.

Cervelo R2 could be ideal - comes with clearance for comfier wider tyres, nice and light and decently priced. The 105 versions were being knocked out for £1500 (I bought one) and obviously with your budget you could easily upgrade the wheels to something decent (the shimano ones fitted are a bit sturdy). The fork is actually from the R3 so frame and fork weight combined is pretty light. Bit longer head tube and a long steerer means you can get pretty much the perfect position.

The older Canyon Endurace without discs looks a bit of a steal - fancy pants DT wheels and 11 speed Di2 for £2650, or £1900 with mechanical Ultegra

Ive got a Cannondale Synapse carbon. Great bike. Didn't want an all out race bike. Its pretty comfy for a road bike. I would like lighter wheels but its only ever on my turbo now anyway.

Giant TCR. Race bike but good over longer distances. I have a Defy Advanced SL (sans discs) and it is really the bike you want. It would be nice if they brought it back. I see no need for discs on a fast road bike too.

Supersix is another good choice. Lower than a Synapse, but not silly short head tubes. There is nothing wrong with a few spacers, either.

I have a new(ish) road bike, but I still can't bring myself to get rid of my old TCR frame.
