Weight-wise I am fairly chunky at c205lbs but thanks to regular winter riding continuing to shrink....my bike has a few bits of carbon (bars and cranks) and other than snapping a bar 5-yrs ago in a massive crash I have never had any problems.

How far is it safe to go with kit nowadays with continuing evolution of carbon development? I am thinking about reliable, enduring life of frames and seatposts for instance are the main manufacturers all sound (except for the price premium of course).

Mate, 205lbs is only 15 stone.

Just avoid parts that have weight limits and change 'stressed' items periodically.

It's stronger than aluminium.

Do you worry about your alu parts?

do not worry

do not use a 99g carbon bar

do not use a carbon rail saddle

do not use a silly light carbon seatpost....

all good

Cheers gents.
Though I am still in two minds about a Carbon Seat Post (an S-Works one I have seen). I don't have big crashes that often but I'm guessing that could get really nasty if it sheared... ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

S-Works posts are not light, and Spesh stuff is designed to be tough, not light. You won't break it.
