A friend has saved his well earned pennies to buy a Canyon nerve am 6.0, http://www.canyon.com/_uk/mountainbikes/bike.html?b=2563 and today he has seen a 2009 model on the outlet http://www.canyon.com/_uk/outlet/article.html?o=A1031267, he's after some advice of which is the better bike, he has the money to order either straight away.

Older Canyons sometimes had ropey geometry - worth checking that carefully.
I'd take the new one for the bolt-through fork and shimano transmission.
