Looking for a holiday cottage in Scotland West Coast, thinking of nowhere high than Trossachs, seen what looks like a nice cottage in Southerness, we have a budget of £600 for the cottage, ideas or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

[Thread Hijack]

Trekster.

We'll be up your way at the end of April.
Any chance you could show us round some of your local trails again please? [/Thred Hijack]

We had one nights camping on the caravan park in Southerness.
I'm in no rush to ever stay there again. Ned city.

Why would you ever choose to go to Southerness? Just search out one of Treksters b&b threads in his history and save the man cutting and pasting the same information again!

If you are looking for luxury cottage, there's a place called kinnelhook in the dumfries area, I don't know how much it is but Steve is a good guy (and mtber) if you can understand his yorkshire accent!

Advice would be stay away from southerness, you could head out to the galloway hills for nicer scenery and less cheap blackpool feel

If you are wanting to stay in that area google for; Carsethorn, New Abbey, Rockcliffe, Colvend and Sandyhills.

Aye, especially during July & August during school holiday times. Heard it can be a bit "wild"

SSS .. would love to. Got some dates?

I will be spending some time down at Sandyhills in a caravan with family during Easter holidays.
Wife was actually talking about me starting up a guiding business given the number of requests I get 💡

it's at the bottom of the firebreak if you don't turn off for the afternoon trail, think the exit is further round than pipeline. slippier than it looks in the wet. 😀

Before that it was "Gals Gully" which was slightly better than it`s other less appropriate name. Young Robbie would be mighty embarrassed if he knew. His Mum and a few other Ladies used to ride that trail back then 😛

That was a week or so ago, cold+asthma+cold weather/fog/smog+log burners are not a good mix. That has been superseded by unwell parents and hospital visiting 😐

I must ride my bike this week sometime but when......???
Tomorrow I am helping teach people how to teach people(Bikeability)how to ride bikes and in the evening I will be talking even more about kids riding bikes at club meeting after having been to hospital............a few beers will be consumed tho 😆

Ok Southerness is out, not into the grockle/ned scene, want a nice coastal villages small town a bit North or South of Glasgow. On initial search Oban cottages were very expensive, so looking elsewhere. ???

Any Dalbeattie/Mabie off-piste/coastal riding would be good though.

Certainly is 😆
Trail has had a bit of an upgrade with a lot of the gorse having been removed, the path widened and gates in the dykes where you had to climb over them. Quite fancy doing it the other way for a change, towards Sandyhills 💡 Drop out of D`beattie at Barnbarroch into Kipford and follow Jubilee path to Rockcliffe. Then along the shore and up to the trigg point etc.
If you have the map or use an online one it is possible to cycle over to Mabie via a forest road called Bilsons Link. This starts at Southwick East Lodge just along the road a bit from Sandyhills towards Southerness. Planning to find a way to get over to New Abbey via the monument but it is a bogfest I reckon 🙄
Good couple of hrs off-piste to be had in Dalbeattie 😉
We have lost a fair bit to harvesting in Mabie but a few more have been created, some are a bit "challenging" 😉

You are just along the road from Kirroughtree on the 712. You can park at the bottom of Heartbreak Hill, ride down to the visitor centre and finish off on McMoab. Nice wee place New Galloway.

Not sure, bit away from Dumfries but if you use good auld google for D&G you will find something. All depends on their interests and how much driving you want to do. Pretty remote in NG!
Castle Douglas is your nearest "big" town with 2/3 supermarkets inc Tesco. Good local butcher and bakers shops in CD.
Bike shops are CD cycles and Nextlevel
Water sports at Galloway Sailing centre/Lock Ken.
Horse riding ; http://www.barstobrick.co.uk/
Waterwheel at Mill on the Fleet, Gatehouse
Forest drive through Clatteringshaws, places to stop and do some pool dipping/picnic type stuff. My kids loved that.

http://www.lagganoutdoor.co.uk/
A few suggestions I can think of .
