It is... and it goes past STW HQ, but I think you knew that ๐Ÿ˜‰ There's only the occasional weir thing but if you've got skillz you can ride on the boards rather than the cobbles. Sprays a lot of mud so go crud guarded up. Here's a pic of myself and comedy Dave on a boat last week.

Goes to Rochdale and on to Manchester.
Never been further than Rochdale myself though

Rode it a couple of weeks ago in the other direction. It goes from Tod along to Summit which is IIRC the highest canal in Britain then along to Littleborough, it is then an easy climb to Hollingworth Lake where you can revel in the delights of Rochdale on sea with amusement arcades, chippy or carry onto the Pennine Bridleway under Rakewood Viaduct.

Yeah it looked easy from our boat. Nice country too, lots of locks.

Towpath is a nice ride all the way from Sowerby Bridge to Rochdale. Some nice pub stops too.

Easy to lose the canal in Rochdale, but worth finding it again for a trip to Middleton ๐Ÿ™‚

Last bit to Manchester can be a bit grim........

Summit which is IIRC the highest canal in Britain

No it's not! The Huddersfield Narrow Canal between Marsden and Diggle is the highest point in the canal network, the Rochdale one is the second highest. In your face, Calderdale! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I dunno. The Hudds canal was shut for a long time, perhaps it's from before it reopened?

Is that collapsed retaining wall still strewn over the towpath near the Stubbing Wharf? It's been there forever and is bloody annoying...

It is, its quite nice and there are even "trial sections" where you get to ride over a bridge or some water flowing over cobbles. Look out for the pub in hebden on the canal (can't remember the name) but the food portions are HUGE! you do not need a starter/main/side/dessert. No.
