Can you make a GRX 610 double shifter into a single?

Just wondering about trying the Big Brother with a set of drop bars and have noticed some GRX 12 speed shifters for sale.

BUT

The LH one is a double and I need it to be a single, is there a way to change them to single?

ta in advance

Erm, don't push them sideways?

It's probably possible to turn them into dropper levers.

Or, I've got a pair of 1x12 grx shifters to still on the classifieds at some point.

You could run a short length of housing under the tape and terminate the cable with a solderless nipple. That would stop it moving

To make it truly a 1x yes but you need a donor lever. The blade is different and there is no shift mechanism. The body is the same. I have a smashed body grx600 1x lever hear that I'm going to use to convert a grx400 to grx600 (share the same body). You need to remove the pivot pin, at which point everything falls apart. Then remove the shift mechanism and install the donor parts. Refitting the lever is difficult and it is possible that the master cylinder piston can come out.

This is all very much unofficial. Would I do it on a new lever, only if there was no other option (i.e. it was a very rare item). I've seen people clamping a sort shift cable under the clamp band. If you put the shifter in the right position first then the main blade movement will be very similar to the 1x (the lever does move a little on the 1x levers).

@Onzadog

How much are you looking for?  800 or 600 series?

They are GRX 610, taken off a new bike and swapped before ever being ridden.

Looking at the price of this at some of the discount places and knocking a chunk off, how does £200 sound?

There's also GRX 400 calipers, 160mm Shimano rotors and a 610 1x40T chainset from that bike as well.

Pearson cycles on Ebay are selling the whole groupset minus the cassette for £280. They've also got brifters with callipers for £160. I've not seen anyone else even close to that price and it's cheaper than I've ordered a 105 groupset from China for.

@vortexracing yeah, it was just the shifters was based off looking at prices at bike parts, merlin etc.

Wasn't aware of Pearson on eBay. Guess that gives grounds for a counter offer.

You can just run the double shifter and not use the shift mechanism, I have such a setup on the eTandem and it works with no issues

Yes, I don't really understand what the issue with simply fitting a double shifter and then not shifting your non-existent front mech with your non-existent front cable. Even if you accidentally 'shift', it's not going to do anything and the brake will work regardless.

I ran a LH 4720 as a flappy "1x" lever for a bit it was fine, I had worked out that it was possible to block the shifter mechanism and prevent the lever moving sideways and was going to 3D print myself a little block to clip in the back at some point, but it was fine without and I have since gone 2x on that bike instead.

Sorry for not replying gents, I'll give those shifters a miss @Onzado, hopefully preset will have them. I went for the Pearce cycles ones form Pearsons cycles. I'll give them a go. Cheers
