I want to buy a Cotic Soul frame on C2W - I have wheels, I want to get the frame, and all other bits (maybe forks), but obviously there is a limit.

I spoke to the LBS and they said you had to buy a complete bike, I suppose there is some sense in this, but my other option is to buy a complete bike and then sell bits and replace them, which all seems like a lot of work.

Cheers,

Jim

Official rules jim are that you have to buy a full bike. Some LBS shops will bend the rules for people they know. But if your company scheme is limited to certain retailers you'll be stuck.

Is there 'flexibility' in your company scheme, price limit?

You can't sell the "bits" as they belong to your employer.

Eye,

I did think about this selling of the 'other' bits that are hired. I guess I can't do that either...

Looks like I am a bit stuck as the voucher is Cyclescheme and so can't get a bargain Boardman and there ain't a lot I want for £900. 😥

I got my frame on the scheme last year, no problem (£999).
Don't know if the rules have changed since mind.

I'd try another shop.
I got a Ti frame on the scheme.

Legally, you can't really do a frame on the scheme. The tax break is for the "provision of a bicycle".

Rules haven't changed, but after the final value stuff, I think Cyclescheme and others are making a greater effort to actually comply in other respects too.

I'm sure you can get a very decent bike for commuting on from all sorts of retailers for that sort of money. Oh - you want a nice bike for playing on - poor you.

Funnily enough I did just that last year. The retailer supplied the Cotic frame and various other bits (brakes, cassette etc) and did the build. I supplied some of my own parts like saddle and forks and they were even happy for me to purchase wheels elsewhere (Merlin) which were much cheaper than theirs. Sweet bike - I love it (and will be out on it in about half an hour).

Worth phoning around.

What 5thumbs said, in the end do walk out of the shop with a bike... hum yes, you might have walked in with a pile of bits.

Cheers guys,

Have sorted this out now. Very happy. I shall be walking out of the shop with a complete bike. Very understanding and no risk to them either for selling me a very nice bike to commute to work and play on.

Cheers for the moral support.

Jim
