Hi sorry if this is obvious but what size tyres can I but on my 26" bike. I know they have to be 26" but can I use 2" or 2.25". I currently have 2" so should I stick to that?
2.00" and 2.25" is at the skinnier end of MTB tyres so you should be fine in most frames and will fit on your 26" wheels.
Without knowing what bike you're on it's difficult to say how wide you can go before you'll start to have clearance problems. Have a look how much space there is between your current tyre and the frame. I assume it is an MTB and not a specifically deigned commuter bike or something else?
I would suspect most typical mountain bikers run something between 2.1 and 2.35 and these will fit in most MTB bikes.
Those with a reason to do so will run something 2.4 or 2.5 wide, maybe even a 2.7.
Some folk like to be a bit different and will buy/build a bike that'll run larger than this. You might find a 4" tyre on a fat bike!
Thank you that was very helpful. It's a trek fuel ex 5 2012. The stock tyres are 2" but I would like to get some 2.25". From what you said it sounds like I will be ok.
Depends what you do, and who makes the tyres and how wide your rims are ๐
Lots of variables.
