What's it like at the moment? Are they very washed out and rough after the winter or not too bad?

Thanks.

Perish the thought your mountain bike might have to handle a rough surface.

Get on with it ya big jessie.

They'll be as usual. Just wetter.

Pretty much as usual on saturday. Annoying chicken line in the black section on falla brae making it awkward to ride the actual line, think that was it more or less.

Where about on Falla Brae?

You know the new/modified black bit where you turn off on the right of the red? The last rooty bit, the wee drop, has eroded away on the right so you need to work a wee bit harder to stay on the true line and do the drop between the trees. (not the big log drop/roll, the natural rooty one)

To be fair, we totally should have built a chicken line there. But it's still annoying!

Oh yeah, know where you mean. Can never get myself round and up and over that root now as you get kinda dragged to the right.

Thanks to those who answered the question instead of making judgement!

FYI, that bit off Falla Brae is named "The Big 3 0".

What bike are you riding, you will die.

PS. The whole place was in great nick a few weeks back, almost dusty.

There's already a chicken run, its called the red option. Besides it took Ben long enough to build the rock feature without putting in an easier option too.

Given that the unofficial chicken run has eroded through the intended line so much that it's hard to stay on that line, we probably should have built a proper chicken run that hopefully would have weathered better.

I however have plenty of sympathy for Steve's position. It's quite disheartening to put a lot of time and effort into making an interesting trail only to discover that a number of riders would be happier with straight lines down fall lines and will happily wear down an interesting trail in order to achieve that. ๐Ÿ™

(My personal bugbear is on the Pie Run, where Hop, Skip and Jump has morphed into Hop, Skip, Jump and Massive Cheat Line Because Cornering Is So Hard, because 3 options weren't enough apparently. Plus every straight line on the swoopy bits of Falla Brae erodes my faith in humanity a little bit more.)

Its not even a hard black feature, if you can't ride that what the heck are you doing taking the black option. I haven't been for ages so I don't know what its like but I'm still going to comment anyway in true STW style. Is it a strava shortcut?

And closed due to storm damage, icy and buried under snow?

@Steven, the reason we spent so long deliberating about a chicken line was that even when we were building it, you could see that it had a natural wide line where people were going to end up by mistake. And like anything else, once there's a ridden line other people will ride it either deliberately or by mistake. And now it's just the more obvious line, so unless you make an effort to ride the real line you're going to do the other one. Not entirely sure how we're going to fix that tbh. Spikes, possibly.

I was there twice last week and rode red and blue on the first day and the Black last Friday . I was saying to a mate the Black is easier to ride these days than the red as the red seems to get way more traffic and Is rough as ****. Still great fun though . Spooky was a bit Icy at the top and after todays weather is probably under a wee bit of snow.

the enduro lines that have appeared on XX and the bitch are also really bad and eroding the trails massively at points.

I find the braking bumps at the very last section of hit squad hill to be a killer as well if you hit them at speed.

Pennels vennel looks like a complete disaster from the road, so many trees down over the trail.

Been there most weekends over the past month and the trails are riding fine and a lot of the time have been better when they are wet, seem to offer more bite to the tyre at times.

Some very localised snow today, and much more predicted overnight and later in the week. A good 3/4 inches in my back garden which means double that up the hill at Glentress.

<Guilty trailfairy> I actually really like the way the Bitch is falling apart </guilty trailfairy>

The big stone step that collapsed is the perfect example of why you don't make your own lines though, it had 2 chicken lines that got so massive that they undermined the actual trail and destroyed it ๐Ÿ™
