after a long lay off bike wise I'm intrigued and keen to get back on the bike but sick of the costs of suspension components . What's out there without paying a fortune ..On one fatty ? others ?
thanks
bill
what are the costs of suspension? fairly low here unless you are doing something wrong
Mike ..3 yrs ago my finger was on the pulse re specifications / discount costs etc . then my knees packed in . want to return to having fun without high maintenance costs / time etc . have a turner 5 spot hanging up in the garage together with a love hate speedhub and a singular swift . just fancy something different . Not interested in racing /competing etc ..( probably cos i can't do it !)
fair enough, I've done 2 sets of seals and some lube/oil in 2 years it's still cheap.
TBH although i can source forks / rear shocks etc relatively cheap just got sick of the massive premium to be paid because it's a trendy sport IMHO supported by plenty of well paid people ..rather like motorcycling/skiing etc. I can afford it but prefer buy wisely and spend elsewhere.
I was pretty close to buying a silverback scoop, but just barely resisted... Lack of reviews but the spec looked fantastic. I got the feeling at the end of last year that there was about to be a bit of an avalanche of new bikes though
On one fatty is still £1k. Wont get much more for less.
Have you ridden a fat bike? There isn't much suspension in those tyres, its like any other rigid bike but the high frequency buzz and skipping over the top of bumps is swapped for smooth but bouncing through everything. It's not better its just different.
Felt and Charge have fat bikes in the same ballpark price wise, Genesis too.

Yep. Fat biking definitely isn't the latest trend for the middle class mtb'er with money to burn. It's the bike of the people...
How much is a fortune? I reckon the Canyon Dude CF is pretty good for £1600..
Who said it was jambo? 🙄
suspect a touch of sarcasm in Jambo's post 😀
I certainly can they're all heavy and slow, just another fad supported by well paid people, pointless unless youj ride in snow
The three of us that go on a group ride each week have all bought On One Fattys over the last while. We use them a lot more than we ever thought we would.

The pink tyres on this one can be changed to Floater tyres for £20. The floaters are a good tyre for most types of riding.
They are great fun and for £800 not too expensive. This is a Bank Holiday special. They have offers sometimes (we got a £1000 Fatty for £700 at Christmas time on a deal of the day.
Konanige,
Ridden one ? I'm not doing missionary work here, but ridden any that are coming in around the 10 - 11kg mark ?
You would need to spend a good bit more to get a Fat bike at the weight. The Canyon Dude is just under 12kg for £1700. The On One Fatty is listed as 15.4kg. The ride well even with that weight though.
Have an On One Fatty, have put lightweight inner tubes in and changed the bars and stem, that little lot saved more than two pounds. Great fun to ride, always surprising how it's the same speed as all the normal bikes. Where it is really surprising is on our local DH tracks, I'm a bit more timid in my old age but this has me going down the steep ones again! Not to choice if you have some long road legs but 29ners much better at those than 26ers, the floaters drag on Tarmac but work well on our local hardback, loose stuff and roots. I've not ridden it in the deep mud but reckon it wouldn't be great, other might know better.

Really? 🙂
26lbs and could be lighter with a few weight weenie bits and if tubeless.

My next one is even lighter.
But the best fatbike to start on is the Pugsley, You don't have to pay the fatbike tax for hubs (it uses standard hubs) and they are lighter and more readily available.
