[Closed] Can I mount a GX (12 speed) derailleur to a frame with a "direct mount" hanger?

I want to swap my 2nd bike over to 12 speed so they can share wheels etc.

But when I went to fit the derailleur - it sits too far from the cassette. Some investigation shows that the bike came originally with a Shimano "direct mount" 11 speed - and the hanger seems designed for that. It has a kink to keep the derailleur futher out than a normal hanger.

Do I have any options? Any adapters / mods I can do?

The bike is a Whyte T129 RS if that makes any difference.

Contact Whyte to see if they make the hanger you need.

Whyte's website is very good at listing spares etc including a detailed list of hangers for all models. However they list only one option for my model: so I'm hoping for some alternatives / plan B - while I wait to hear back from them.

The offset is different, I managed to bodge an adapter from a dropout extension but replaced with correct drop out long term.

Why not try it, it might work well. B screw adjustment might be necessary.

Believe me - I have tried it: and scrathed my head several times as to why it wont shift into the lowest 2 gears ๐Ÿ™‚

No!
It's another 'std' that pisses me off quite regularly as I put SRAM on all of my bikes. Bikes should provide a Std hanger if they come with a direct mount one fitted.

That is a complete pain.

Wheels Manufacturing make an emergency universal fit hanger. That may work in the short term. They may also make the hanger you are looking for.

Was it BETD that used to make custom hangers? North Shore Billet also do after market hangers. They may be able to help.

Looking at the Whyte table, I reckon you need the DROPWHQ4SR. If you look at 2016 for T129 S, which had SRAM groupset, that what it used.

Thanks all - esp Clubby. I think the photos of the DROPWHQ4SR vs what's shown for my model are slightly different scale but I think I can see if I rotate one of them and squint slightly the bolt holes are about right so I've taken a punt on ordering one.

I got so say that some these new standards are a royal PITA!

Yeah, Cube do this too ๐Ÿ™‚

I lucked out on my old Reaction frame as I was fitting Shimano and it came with the Shimano direct fit hangar.

Not a very new thing. I think my Cube was a 2016 frame.

Just an update from me if anyone is searching for why GX 12 speed is giving issues installing on a Whyte T129 RS: you need to buy a new hanger. Clubby had it right: DROPWHQ4SR from the Whyte website. I've got it all working perfectly now!

The main issue was that it wont shift into the lowest 2 gears. The OEM hanger is specific to Shimano.

Note BETD also seem to do a hanger (listed for earlier T129's) but I've not tried that.
