My SLX rear brake has been spongy of late so set off to bleed it. everything seemed OK but air still seemed to appear in the master cylinder reservoir as if it was coming in through the lever plunger. Is this possible? If so can you rebuild it or is it another brake buy?

Yes it's possible, and no, you can't rebuild it as Shimano don't do spares.

Oh boy more money to spend! Still the other current disc thread has some cheap suggestions.

It's from the earlier 9spd series any reason why the 666 won't work?

Hoses might be slightly different I guess, but with an appropriate fitting kit (olives/banjo etc), I reckon it'll work just fine

EDIT - see here
