Who here lives in Kernow?!

I'm moving back to the motherland after the best part of 8 years in the Midlands in a few weeks, so will be looking for a new crowd to go biking with. I've ridden a few times with the Chodkis (before I moved away) but was wondering how many STWers are local (hello Crispybacon!)

Have come across Cornwall MTB's web site which seems alright - anyone here ride with them?

Hi orena45

Nice to hear that you are returning to pastyland mate, drop me a line if you want to ride on Dartmoor again sometime soon hopefully not when it's a minus 10 headwind 😉

The Cornwall MTB boys/girls are good fun but I've only ridden the once with them & they had to call out the Air Ambulance (not for me). If they come up to East Cornwall/Bodmin Moor way I'll try to hook up with them again.

Crispy, was that Steve's 30ft Superman landing on his noggin effort?? (iirc under Stuntman steve on youtube!)

there is dare i say it, a regular community of us on bike radar in the Xc in cornwall thread under the rides section, often some of the guys doing weekday rides too, (hopefully wont get barred for mentioning other bike forums!)

I'm based in Cornwall, not that I'm entirely active on here...

As well as those already mentioned there's also the Cornwall Freeriders group on Facebook that's got a pretty active community. They're organising monthly DH type races at the moment, and (as the name suggests) are mostly DH/FR focussed. But there's a small group of more trail orientated riders on there.

FYI - I'm from/will return to the Camborne/Helston area.

Gavtheoldskater - finally got round to exploring that side a bit last and did a ride near Zennor. Found one or two nice remote bridleways but it was wetter than an otter's pocket that day and got soaked! Might give you a shout sometime, maybe you could show me some cheeky stuff in the area?!

Crispybacon - haha, yeah that was a bit of a chilly ride but a good'un! Definately up for doing another Dartmoor explore again this summer. 🙂

Delusional - if I still had me Coiler, I'd be up for tagging along - used to go and have a play around Poldice before I moved away which was good for that kinda stuff. Traded it in though for my Trek Fuel EX but still head over there on a long ride and give the down hill run a go! 😀

I'm among the more trail orientated people myself 😉 Probably ought to hook up with one of those other groups at some point really!

I'd be up for exploring some trails down in the Penwith area if anyone organises a ride. I've been thinking about the coast path south of St. Ives a bit lately, but it looks like a bit of a mammoth and I'm not sure how rideable it will be.

the coast path south of St. Ives

i hav'nt been on the part directly out of st ives but i walked a lot around the zennor stretch heading west and tried riding the coast path out of gurnards head one time, to me its not really worth the effort on a bike. you do get some incredible short sections, but i mean short and pretty soon its back to carrying a bike - especially if you go west from gurnards head.

down towards st just, from the cape golf club to be precise, there's a decent enough 'short' ride along the cliff - some of it even legal! : ) its not tech by any means, but dry even in the wettest wet.

Orena, we end up down at bissoe/poldice quite often, a Lot of fun to be had around there! although some of it best not done on a carbon ht with 100mm forks! hahah! But osme great trails aorund there! got some great pics from 'Mars' on the facebook group (cornwallmtb), also a load from the other rides we've done,

Gav, where abouts is that trail matey, Looks Great!
i ride Tehidy most weeks during the week, there is a Great techy section of XC trail that used ot be part of the old Xc loop in the woods, about a mile long, with a Really nice section that drops you out of the tree line to the main path to finish off, Very rooty now,but good fun, also 2 other really good little sections in the other half the woods, good for a little play!

Darn, that's exactly what I was afraid of. Maybe I won't bother with that then!

Excellent - I've done the Minack->Sennen section before and that was really good. Sounds like that could be extended quite nicely then. According to the SW Coast path site it's a little over 11 miles from Porthcurno to Cape Cornwall, that sounds a little too low to me though!

Nice looking trail Gav - I want a go!

Timmo - nothing like a nice bit of arsenic to go with your riding huh lol?! 😉 Ridden in Tehidy a fare few times, used to be some good little sections in there.

Sounds to me like we need a mini STW get together in the near future 😀

not tehidy as far as i know, not found any parts that come out at a gate like that with a layby (at the end)??? be intereting to find out where it is though, looks good,

some good sections up in Idless woods too, some nice tracks been built up in there, but involves a lot of climbing for the short down blasts! - not good at ups hahah!

no, its definitely not tehidy.

its in a very small private wood (a glorified copse really) with absolutely no public right of way access. i only know about it because i know the guy that made it. in truth its not worth driving to because it really is so short, but i shove it into some of my regular loops as its only a few miles from my house.

joining the dots like that is really the essence of riding around here, there's a similar but a lot shorter section that rolls down to my house and i know of another (found literally by crawling through a hole in the hedge) that winds around trees down a very steep hill side. if i get a sec later i'll pop down and take some teaser pics.

that freeriders on facebook is interesting as well, i did'nt know about that and i definitely did'nt know about the trails just outside of st ives. think i may have to go take a look!

if anyone wants some route info drop me a line, but i should add that i'm more xc orientated than dh so don't expect endless berms and jumps - more slogging across moors and swearing at horses when the bridleway becomes a waterlooged unpassable disaster. if you've got tracklogs i can email over files, or will mark up maps for the price of a latte down at marazion ; )
