Hi all,

I'm switching from SS to 1x9 but not sure what sort of chain length i need. Is there a way of calculating it or is it simply trial and error?

Can't remember what my bike had when it was geared and can't find the old chain to count the links.

Cheers.

Wrap it around biggest cog and then add 2 links.

You can measure, which is half way between calculating and guessing! Just fit the chain round the big sprocket at the back and the big/only chain ring, avoiding the rear mech and then add two links. Simple.

I found the big big plus two links wrong for one by nine. I did plus four with a check to see what the derailluer position looked like at either end of the cassette.

Bin big plus two does work for triple setup though

Used ring to big ring plus 1 link, no problems and nice and quiet. The Park Tools site recommened this length and I trust them.

Eh! Big/big plus 2 works on any set up!?!?!
Why on earth would you need more links running a 1 x 9?
