I have managed to burr one of the T10 bolts on a hope master cylinder reservoir cap. I think the bolt had some dried mud in it so the T10 tool wasn't seating very well.
Anyway, what would now be the best way on getting it out?
Get the mud out with a pin and tap the tool in deeper? They shouldn't be tight at all. I only ever use a t10 screwdriver on mine.
Yes, that was the first thing I tried. Bolt seems to be a lot tighter than "normal"!
I had this happen on an older cap. I rang Hope for advice, and they told me that if it wouldn't shift to either dril it out or or use a hacksaw to cut a slot in the capscrew head. I pointed out this would make both the res cap and screw unusable. He then asked me for my address so he could send me a new res cap and screws for when I'd got it off, and refused to charge. That way I had the spares ready before I attacked the job, confident I had the replacements ready for when it all went wrong.
Before that though, support the reservoir and clean out the torx head before tapping the t10 driver into the slot smartly to dislodge it. It might shock it free.
What worked for you, drilling it out or cutting the slot?
I have used a pair of molegrips in the past, but drilling it works as a last resort.
Which lever is it? If it's a tech 2, just bleed it from the other side.
I drilled it in the end.
I had a similar problem on my avid juicy brakes where the screw driver head rounded. Hadstock buy new cap justice growth screws. Drilled the head off carefully and with no tension on the screw came away with finger strength.
No it's a tech3 so haven't got that option.
Happened a couple of times over the years. I used a hacksaw to cut a groove in the bolt head then used a flat head screwdriver. Despite the bolt being so small it worked surprisingly well
Drilling it worked for me.
Surprisingly quick and easy.
Sorted it with a hacksaw cutting a slot & a flat bladed screwdriver. Thanks for all the advice
The screws are steel, the reservoir alloy. I think it's bi-metallic corrosion which binds the threads, making it more difficult to remove. My first ever Mono Mini levers did this, but so far, the Tech levers have been fine.
Jewellers screwdriver might work. As said, give it a tap to try to break the binding, or try tightening it very slightly before loosening.
