Got an evening group ride coming up. Anybody know what burn time I can expect from my MaXx-D if the temperature doesn't get above zero? I don't really want it to go dead after an hour!
Reason I ask is on my early morning rides, I pop the light on when on the road. This is probably 20 mins max, on full.
Get home, and the button is showing amber, which is supposedly 50% discharged. During the summer, this wouldn't happen for a good hour plus into a ride.

You're fine down to -20 apparently,[url= http://www.exposurelights.com/company/frequently-asked-questions/ ] according to the FAQs[/url]
They even claim the LEDs burn brighter! 🙂
On max power both mine last between 2 hr 50min (worst) and 3hr 5min (best) until red led flashes.
never had an issue with mine, ridden for over 2 hours in -5 to -10 conditions in ice/snow the lot at night...burn time totally the same as warm conditions!
Approx. 3 hours @ full blast on mine even in sub zero conditions.
Must admit it runs on fresh batteries as I've only bought it a couple of weeks ago.
Mine seems to have a significantly decreased burn time in temps less than 4C - during the spring / Autumn night rides I always get pretty much bang on 3hrs on max, however in these colder conditions we've had recently I tend to get about 1.5hrs on max...
rode the 24 hours of strathpuffer with mine last year - got the full 18 hours of darkness out of mine
is your bike stored outside during the day ? i find if i store fully charged batterys in my shed in the cold they tend to loose charge quickly - if i store them at room temp in the house they stay fully charged

I charge the light, then it's left on the sideboard, so stored at room temperature. Think I'll test it tomorrow and leave it running for the whole ride and see how long it lasts.
Why not flick it onto medium/low? i very rarely use high, just dont need it unless your going very fast on very tech stuff.

Dont be a 'insert swear-filter-unsuitable word here' you dont need 1000lumens for the road, your only annoying others and not getting any benefit.
(i have a MaxxD and a dynamo light, even on High my MaxxD is outdone by the dynamo for road use, as all its light is cast onto the ground, not into the trees/verge/drivers eyes etc.)
Ive noticed mine gets to amber a bit quicker in these really cold temps. This morning I did a 2.5h ride starting at 6am. I left it charging all night, indoors. Did the ride with it on full the whole time - the amber light came on about 2hrs into it. On a warmer night ride it came on 3hrs into it.
Still bright and lasts long enough for me though, but if your planning an epic take some about 20 mins off. But thats at really really cold temps. Do you want to ride for that long in that cold ?

See your point, but think I'm OK. When on the road the lamp is pointed at the ground. Goes back to nearer horizontal when off road. I can see where it's shining, and it ain't in people's faces.
Okay guys, you really need to learn how to look after your batterys!
Li-ions dont like heat, so that means [b]DONT[/b] leave them lying around at room temp, and one thing you should never do, is leave them charging unattended over night. It doesn't matter how good your charger or batterys are, is just not advisable.

Aye leave them in the sub zero shed so they are flat when you go to use them - it's not just my use lights that do this my li ion dinottes were the same - when was room temp hot ? No worsethan riding in austrailia summer with them
Of course I was leaving them for a couple of days tops - usually just hours not months - they are being stored cool just now as in away from the bike for 3 months
lightman - not charging overnight is a little difficult when a MaXx-D needs a 16hr charge and the Six Pack takes 24hrs.
My joystick maxx is terrible in the cold, goes to amber within 30 mins and red in an hour.
16hr charge time!!! I thought times like that disappeared with Halogen & HID bike lights!
You should talk to Smudge about getting a faster charger.
Okay, you dont seem to have much choice then, just make sure you're charging them away from flammable stuff, like carpets/curtains etc...
I use/sell P7/flashlights, so i have a lot of loose batterys, and i keep them all in the fridge, most are at about 50% charge, with a couple at full charge ready to go if i need them.
If you have a look at the storage temp in the link i gave you, you lose a surprising amount of capacity just storing them at room temp in a year!
Its up to you guys what you do, but this is just stuff ive learned over the years of dealing with them.
Long charge times are not a particular problem to me. In fact a slower charge rate probably increases the life of the battery.
I have a pair of three year old 08 Enduro MaXx lights which still exceed the manufacturers stated run times of 3hrs on full power.
