Building an unboxed...

[Closed] Building an unboxed bike from 2011 - upgrade or keep the O.E. running gear?

Hi,

I'm having a clean out and found another spare CAAD10 I never used from racing in 2011 (had 4 of these and a super 6). My garage is full of bikes I need to sort out this week. Found an old Zaskar with XTR has to go but the memories make me a hoarding Jedi.

Sold most of racing stuff after a few injuries and retired in 2013. Just ride for fitness and fun.

It still has 10spd Ultegra 6700.

I'm tempted to build the CAAD10 but not sure whether to use the old running gear or upgrade it. The stock wheels are heavy but good trainers.

Or just use it as it is.

Lasr option - sell on here but wouldn't get much? £500?

It doesn't have internal cabling or disc options. CAAD12 would be a nice option if I sold this,

If you decided to split I'd have the group set!

If your enjoying riding for fun and training i'd just build it up as is, I'm riding a 2010 ArcX CX framed bike that's quite heavy, its got canti's and is 10 Speed.

After years of keeping up with the latest and greatest of all that is MTB and the next must have i find it very simplistic running this CX bike, it adds to the chilled out relaxing style i seem tave adopted whilst riding it along,

But for the sake of £500, i'd keep it and enjoy. 8)

Xyeti - you may have hit the nail on the head.

I might just build it this week and I think if I was going to upgrade then I would like internal cabling as a bike tart 😆

It's a 58cm in white.

It's an Ultegra group set bar the cranks.

There wouldn't be much value in keeping the existing stuff as it's not retro... so if you're going to ride it then upgrade, if you're sleling it don't bother and sell as is 🙂

PS The Zaskar... show us a picture or two, I'm always keeping an eye out for a nice mtb from my childhood years!

you've completely lost me with that logic?! 6700 is one of the least-loved groupsets around (writing as someone who's pride+joy has it and am perfectly happy with it), so as the kit doesn't have a huge resale value, if you're going to RIDE it then KEEP the groupset and use it, replace it when it wears out.

as long as this isnt some stealthy astro turfing for an impending classifieds post 😉

Frankenstein - There's no helping a Bike tart

The 6700 kit is a good gruppo, Get it built up with some 28mm tyres,
The vultures are swirling......

I'll build it this week and see how it rides. If I can get some fitness back or just a smile then it's worth keeping.

I'm out of shape from breaking my ankle so I can't justify a new bike unless I was in race fitness.

Just found some Bonti X-lites unused road wheels but 10spd I think - these could go on the Caad10?

I'm tempted to sell but would lose a lot of cash but on other hand; sell it all to fund a new bike.

Will take some snaps of the Zaskar once I can walk around the garage without falling over.

I have a week off to get as clutter free as possible!

You have brand new bikes just sitting around in the garage that you'd forgotten about!?

The Zaskar was resprayed by Argos racing cycles in Bristol.

I rebuilt it with 970 XTR in 2007/8 with Reba U turns 85-115mm with some light but tough xc wheels.
The handling is great and it corners on rails but not comfy for a country for a pootle with the triple triangle but it's a race bike.

I've just sold 2 bikes and once my garage is tidy, I'll decide what I need and what will go.

Years ago I wouldn't sell but now I need space so I can ride/service my bike(s).

Will do.

I have a ton of road bits I'm finding from fenders, racks to computers.

I moved twice due to my job and have not unpacked for 5/6 years.

Now I don't need half of the gear so it's my loss/stupidity but will post soon.

E.g. Boardman Team carbon 2014/15 but ridden once. No excuse. Magpie for bikes.

If you've got road bikes that are already used, like the Boardman, I'd sell the Cannondale as it it, i.e. unboxed and unused. Reckon you'd reasonably more for it in that condition than built up and ridden once.
