Also, get the hub and rim and measure them for the spoke calc numbers before buying your spokes unless you like trusting other people blindly. Based on my own research SS, CRC, Merlin while well priced for most things are not places to buy spokes unles you're loaded. £4 for a box of ten is perfectly doable. There may be better prices depending what you want.
Surfing around STW and all the other usual forums will throw up a lot of very conflicting information- be wary.
Take it to your lbs and ask to use their wall chart. Take a box of biscuits and they might even sell you the spokes at a cheaper price then you can get them online
Then when building copy off another wheel.
But as above, read the book 1st.

I used Sheldon Brown and have built a few wheels now, all running well and get a good hammering, especially my panniered up commuter that does a 25 mile each way commute with half of that off road.
I did the cut down old spoke method to work out spoke length, as per Sheldon.
Last set I built I got spokes from Rose Bikes in Germany. Cheapest for DT Swiss double butted.
I also built my own wheel jig using an online guide. Although first pair I just used the frame, flipping the wheel to check that it was centred rather than using a dishing tool.
It's pretty straightforward if you are fairly handy.
It looks like a right pain in the proverbial haha but do able all the same 🙂

Does the lack of a jig make it a right ball ache? My intention was to do it on the bike, once it'd been pieced together of course.
Sapim spokes are good and a lot cheaper than DT which seem priced by reputation
