Is it possible to build a good cross bike for under £500? looking for frames at the mo and can't seem to find a lot out there then add wheels and this already brings the budget up quite high.

Looking on ebay there doesn't seem to be a lot of people selling decent bikes.

Any pointers or suggestions to look would be greatly appreciated as I keep going from planet x, chain reaction, wiggle and back again.

graham weigh for frame/forks/headset for £200

classifieds here for nearly new cx bits (cough, look at some of my recent ads!).

wheels - nothing special, £100 will easily get you something worthwhile.

Whether you can do it for £500 depends really if you have any bits and bobs at all you can use/re-use from the spares bin.

That reminds me - I have a frame and forks to sell 😮

Also are you looking to race other people - or just yourself?

Have a look at Paul Milnes' shop on EBay..

Better to give him a ring as their website is pretty woeful, but he'd be a good place to start..

I'm considering selling my Jke the Snake. I think it's a 2007 model (bright orange with kona p2 forks, mix of ultegra and 105 components) - bought new and used mostly for commuting. Never raced...

Let me know if interested - email in profile.

Cheers
Nick

+1 graham weigh frames. I scratched something together for for around that price based on one of their frames. Raced for last 2 winters and I'm still alive.

Been looking at those graham weigh frames. Notice it is lighter than the forme hiver

not sure how they compare geometry wise

Not a bad starting place even with the freehub replacement needed.

the weigh frames as far as I can tell when I researched mine are basically the same as the Dolan Multicross.
