I seem to have gathered quite a few spares over the years. I'm trying to decide whether Its worthwhile building them up into a bodged commuter or biting the bullet and buying a cheap roadie or similar. I have a Mk1 PA frame that no one seems to want to buy so thought I'd use that as a base. I think all I would need would be a headset, chaining, rear hub, spokes, a single tyre and a RH shifter.
I'm also considering putting big wheels on it. Not sure if this is wise as it might handle wierd. Anyone done similar? What size of wheels would likely fit with slick tyres? Might start getting to silly money that isn't worth it.
The other option would be to buy a cheap road bike or commuter off the shelf. Probably wouldn't want to spend anything more than £300-350. Not much idea what you'd get for that sort of money.
Wouldn't mind a bike that would work for a little touring too. Quite fancy touring round the Western Isles.
Anyone built a bodged commuter? Any success or was it a heap? Lets see some pics!
my commuter/ canal towpath with the missus etc bike
frame and forks of ebay 100 quid
rear mech, shifters from classified
slicks cheapo crc ones
everything else from the cupboard under my stairs
edit- the saddle i got from santa clause as my old one was shagged
built for 0 pounds and 0 pence. ripped the basement/shed/old man's house to bits for parts then scrounged or begged for some bits. that rear wheel shouldnt be on there, the original one blew up a week or two ago...
oh im lying. bought some new brake pads for it the other week. so im £6 all in.
Did you have that built up in Tescos, tracknicko?
And whose keys are they on the ground?
ha ha. i found that if i spin her round i can get the lock through without taking the wheels off (just)
and as i mentioned earlier... those are my keys. where i managed to 'lose' them for 7 hrs yesterday... the bike (and keys) are in central sheffield.
a close shave!
How tall are you balfa?
