Considering one of the above paired to a set of 100mm SID's.
Rock Lobster TIG Team SL @ £160 and 3.25lbs
or
Carbon Whippet @ £300 and 3lbs.
Any views on the pro's and cons for each? (apart from £150) which goes a long way to some 2nd hand SID's
Ta very muchly

The Whippet has compatibility issues with some triple chainsets if you have one you are planning to use.
I'd have the whippet, the TIG apparently has a very rigid ride. But then again I'm biased as I like carbon bikes 😉

He still lusts after the good old steel stuff, it's just he stuck with some plastic tat called a Blut LTC or something ATM. 😀
Whippet.
I think the team tig sl is a great frame, it's quite short for an xc frame, the med(17") is probably about the same effective TT length as the Whippet small(16"). I don't think the frame is a particularly harsh ride either, certainly no more than my Carbon 456.
What puts me off the whippet is the press fit BB (people reporting issues with a sloppy fit) and those chainset compatibility issues mentioned above. Obviously the whippet looks more modern, the RL is a bit dated now I suppose.

valid point about the push fit bb on the whippet - more like just pop it in with a little finger pressure on mine. Not sure how this will pan out over time. Would be interesting to know if there are any remedies for this if it gets sloppy - I dont want to get out the chemical metal
Really enjoy the responsive and stretched out ride though

You could epoxy in an FSA adaptor sleeve. £12 from CRC.
Just doubled checked the geo on both and that Whippet is quite long.
The RL seems to have the same effective TT as my Soul.
I need a small in both frames.
The ride quality was not really on my list as i don't expect to be doing anything over 2hrs on it ie HTN, Brownbacks or those Manc Madness midweek races and thinking of 1 x10 gearing
Have to agree about looking a bit dated but it seems cheap at £160.

Yep, great price and it still builds a great looking bike IMO even without any hydroforming/carbon. Add some subtle bright yellow finishing to it and it'll look great, maybe some yellow Nukeproof hubs or something.
