Got my wrist out of plaster a week ago but it don't feel anyway near ready to go back biking - how long does it take to get back it's strength back?
open question that one, depends what you did, I fractured mine in 8 places, 1 plate and 16 pins + a ton of screws.. that was a good 5 months wait... if you posh it you wont heal so be realistic!!
Just a fracture in one of the small bones in the wrist
I broke mine in september, started by using my road bike to get back to fitness, then went to Aston hill for a morning of DH about 3 weeks out of cast, no real issues but I'm a manual worker and that was good physio. Just do a few short rides you won't break it just riding along, you'll be surprised how quick it sorts itself out. Mine aches in the damp cold weather but not massivley...
Good luck you'll be fine!
I had open fractures of my left ulnar and radius. Out of plaster after a week because it had two plates and twelve screws in it
Didn't ride again for 9 months
Mate broke his arm back in March, was given the all clear in September and promptly fell off and broke the same arm in the same place bending the plates holding it together. Now he's off the bike for a long long time, guess he rushed back a bit quick
I fell off on my first ride back too, lifted my wrist out of the way and crunched my shoulder...
I broke both the big bones (whatever they are called) in my wrist at Aston Hill (DH3). 'J' plated plus a few screws (still in there), but no cast - consequentially I was riding my motorbike after 4 weeks, and MTB after 6 weeks.
When I went back for a 3 month post-op review the consultant asked me how I done it, and when told MTBing, said that I should be ok now to restart - but be careful. My silence told him...
About 10 minutes.
I'd been riding around in the cast for a couple of weeks beforehand, rode up to the surgery to get it cut off. Put the supplied brace on and rode home. It was a bit strange having this useless floppy thing on the end of my arm for a while, but by the time I'd got home it was OK.
I then jumped in the car, drove down to the Alps and did 2 weeks of solid DHing in Les Arcs without any problems. Was a little bit nervy to start off with, but then came to the conclusion that I was safer riding hard and concentrating, rather than bimbling and loseing concentration which would then end up in a stupid crash.
(about 6 cracks through the end of my radius btw - but they'd all stayed in place)
