Bridleways in Cornwall (or lack of) what's the deal?

So I'm off to North Cornwall for a few months with work, and thought I'd check out the off road riding around there. Seriously, there are no bridleways. I'm not looking for single track or any of that shenanigans, just a bit off off road, do you just ride on the footpaths?

Rule 1 and footpath usage would be my approach. Also check the definitive maps and look for mis-classified rights of way from the great Ramblers snatch of the 50's.

Look on the apps, like Komoot, for routes - if it is anything like south wales the ROWs marked on the maps are very unreliable and just because it says bridleway doesn't mean it is rideable - especially if the off road motorbikes have been at it. So look for established roots that have been recently used.

Horses were banned in Cornwall until 1937 as they were considered the Devil's Transport. Hence few bridleways.

Dunno about north Cornwall but a decent amount of bridleways further south. But yeah, ride footpaths and be nice/say hi is almost always fine.

Plenty of bridleways on the West Kernow Way!

(Recent)* Historically little need. "Smaller" tighter community meant that routes were turned into roads. Non tarmaced routes of any level exist where there was no need or desire to tar them.ย

There are a few bridleways in the Cardinham area which can be linked with the trails in Cardinham woods for a decent ride. There are also footpaths and tracks on Bodmin Moor that could provide decent riding however if it was me I'd take a road or gravel bike and ride over the moorland roads and lanes, many of which are very quiet even in summerย

I would do as mentioned above and look at komoot or similar and cross reference with Strava heatmap
