Does any have any ideas as to why a brand new maxxis receptor tire just will not seat on a rim and yet an older tyre of exactly the same make and model seats perfectly? I managed to give away a load of old tyres as someone wanted to convert their bike to a gravel bike but now I'm selling my current gravel bike I want to set it back to stock and I want to keep my challenge gravel grinders for my new bike. I managed to dig out one of the older maxxis tyres and it fitted absolutely perfectly and seated first time. The brand new one that I bought just will not seat on the rim. It's almost like I can't get the air to go in fast enough or it's just not tight enough on the rim. I've been using an air shot with the valve core removed and it's still not fast enough to get enough air in. I popped down to the garage but the compressor they have down there really wasn't chucking out any more than my track pump could chuck out
My last ditch effort is to leave the wheel inside the house for the night to see if I can get it to warm up and hopefully when it's warmer it might be a tighter fit or at least the rubber might be more pliable. I have to say the new tyre went on just with my thumbs and no tire lever whereas the old tire that had been used as quite a lot needed the tile either to help it get it on...

I've found removing the tyre from its zip ties for a few hours/overnight and warming the tyre nearly always works for me with a track pump. Then Airshot and soapy water if necessary. The last resort is first fitting with an inner tube, as suggested above.
There was a thread a couple of months ago where the OP had become embroiled in a bitter battle with a particular tyre and rim combination which, if I recall correctly, proposed similar solutions.

When I bought new tyres recently with DH casings I put them in a bucket of hot soapy water and left them for half an hour before I even bothered trying to fit them.
It made them very flexible and much easier to handle.
Dilute fairy liquid a bit and use a cloth/paper towel to wet/lubricate the outer edges of the wheel rim and tyre.
above plus , get tyre on, then use a luggage strap/rope/tie down etc, round middle of tyre to push middle of tyre into rim well , as you do this encourage/push etc the tyre edges out onto the rim edge as much as you can. Leave strap in place when airshotting.

For me removing the tyre from the packaging and warming to room temperature/in the sun for a good few hours before fitting nearly always works.
Di you have an airing cupboard you could leave it overnight in?
Gah so leaving it overnight to warm up didn't work..have put a tube in and will try that. The tyre is so loose that the 2 beads were falling off when I put the tube in. I have never had a tyre so loose

I've had this recently, albeit with previously used tyres rather than new ones. Extra wrap of tubeless tape sorted it for me.
I have had success with using a ratchet strap around the circumference of the tyre to get a seal.
Seating one bead with a tube is a really useful idea.
Seat the tyre with a tube then break one bead & remove the tube. With the open bead, hook a tyre lever under it then run the lever around the rim at 90 degrees to the rim to lift it up onto the rim bed.
Best of luck, some tyres are just problematic.

As you're selling the bike, I think I would have just stuck a couple of tubes in by now and called it a day..
I'm selling it to a friend so I'm trying to make sure it's in perfect condition set up as he would want it to be
Thank you everybody for the advice, putting in the inner tube and at least having one side seated worked perfectly. I also left the whole wheel sitting inside the house at room temperature all day so that it wasn't cold
