can any brake lever assy for disc brakes be used universally on the left or the right or do none have the abillity to do this?
im not really talking emergency repair here either, more permanent.

Most Shimano ones are left or right specific apart from the BL-M575 which is flippable. I think Hayes can be used either side but I am no expert on their products.

I don't think they all are, but I know that my Juicy 7's are, as they came from the shop set-up Euro-fashion & I had to swap them over.
I'd have thought other Juicy's would be too.
Not sure about the Elixir's on the new bike, haven't had the need to look.

Spose it depends on the fluid resevoir and if it is upright like a motorbike one (a la hope)my elixirs have the fluid space sort of built in but dont know if they could/should be swapped??

The Elixir levers certainly look flippable.

they are not specific left and right if you swap the hoses but some might not like being mounted upside down.
