I know it is human nature to claim your new bike is the greatest you have ever ridden and is possibly the best bike ever made. But is anyone willing to admit they bought a turkey? I bought a Huffy BMX a few years ago when I knew little about these things. It was a dog.
i built up a downhill bike without already being any good at downhill.
I decided it wasn't really for me - for a beginner the actual downhill itself was ok, albeit slightly scary and i was very slow compared to someone who's good at it, but I decided that the amount of time actually going downhill compared to the amount of time spend getting armoured up, and going up the hill, and the effort and sweatiness of getting up the hill - made me decide it wasn't for me.
I probably spent between £1200 and £1500 building it up and sold it for £800, so i lost some, but i did learn a lot about building bikes.
I had a Trek VRX200 I think. It was startingly ugly, bouncy, heavy, shonky with minimal mud-clearance, rotten components and it made a series of horrendous creaking noises. I hated it with a passion. I'd wanted a Marin Wolf Ridge, but the Trek was cheaper. For some reason...

Owned it for a week, gave it back, repurchased my old ZZR11.
Kona alu hardtail. Never liked it.
For some reason I purchased a Specialised Langster... one ride and it went back
Loads. VT, Superlight, Ibis Mojo, Marin FS...
Cotic Soul, i hated it, too flexy and too steep.

Scott G-Zero. Just couldn't get on with it and it kept biting me.
Dialled PA (blasphemy!) built it up with Rev's and just hated it, didn't want to go up nor down.
Cannondale F900, bodged together by a shop in Salisbury and was the biggest pile of poo ever, brakes never worked properly and Headshock was woeful!! Shop went bust 2 weeks after I bought it and Cannondale were useless at best, bought for £1300 sold after 6 months for £600, NEVER AGAIN!!!!
Trek VRX200, that is totally minging.
For me it was a 2005 Marin Riftzone...couldn't get on with it but the components weren't bad so stripped them off and sold the frame.

Raleigh Activator 2, the first dual suspension mountain bike. Weighed a ton and the shocks were filled with custard.
Marin Wolf Ridge 2005... too high and gangly, mainly. Sold it after a year.
Got a Spesh FSR Expert as an insurance replacement, just felt so heavy to lug it around, sold in and got a s-work hardtail, muchos faster

Spesh Sworks enduro (6"), I hated it with a passion, why would anybody, & there are lots of people on here that will disagree , want a 6" bike with XC angles?
Totally beyond me, but each to there own, Oh & a norco thing with adjustable travel, again to XC for me.

Bought a 2nd hand Cove Handjob frame, built it up and hated it, which was a surprise as i have a Stiffee and a Hustler already.
Annoying thing is i sold a really nice 853 Inbred to fund the Handjob purchase..... so if any one has an 18" for sale let me know 😆 please!
Ti456 - Just never got on with it at all - always felt like i was sat on top of it with a weight bias toward the front.
I didn't hate it, but I prefer my indy fab.

Great bike in it's way but made me realise full suss was not for me.
mine was also a bmx - a redline, it was supposed to be blue but it was quite purple!! it had lots of gold anodizing - which is what i think swung me.
after buying it i got into bmx - and realised what a dog it was - lots of better & cheaper bikes available!
Cove G-Spot, bought it for an "All dayer" as I'm a bigger lad, I thought it would be good.. Coil shock. RS Domains etc, etc..
How wrong I was..
It went down well, but I found it a mare for anything else..

Draggy, sluggish yet somehow poor traction, OK downhill if you didn't brake and liked sliding sideways.
A Bianchi alu hardtail. First new mountain bike for 20 years nearly, knew nothing about XC v trail v all-mountain etc etc. Anyway, long stemmed, narrow bars, twitchy as anything and heavy and woeful suspension fork. What it did do well was go fast. New bars, stem and a superlight carbon rigid fork and I now LOVE it! 😀
Dekerf elysium. Just didn't feel right for me. Looked stunning though.
Similar thing with an Inbred too, just didn't feel quite right, I think I'm too used to steep head angles!

I did quite a few more on mine but it really was a pile of crap. The idrive bits died really quickly, GT actually had no spares. Got sick of it, sold it to a chap who stuck a piece of wood in the place of the rear shock and that seemed to work. Best thing for it.
had one of these - for about 3 weeks - absolute cat vomit - got a burner instead - way way way better in every way.

a fair few:
a scott hardtail (cannot remember the name), but perservered and changed a load of bits and kept it for about a year.
A cannondale Jekyll with a headshock. Around 80mm of travel at the front and 100 at the back. It cracked around the seat tube/top tube weld, spent 3 months waiting to get a replacement. After a really shitty email to cannondale europe, I ended up with a bright yellow frame and forks, which was disgusting. sold that on immediately and bought a cannondale F900 which was a cracking bike.
