[Closed] Bottom Brackets - External 30mm talk to me!

So I'm 2 months into ownership of a new bike.  One of the main attractions to it was the external screw fit BB.  Standard raceface BB has flipped its lid and disintegrated  Which ultimately i expected (perhaps to last more than 2 months) Now i know i should probably swap the cranks to 24mm if i want proper life from a BB.  But thought i would ask for opinions around the different offerings in the market.  I have always worked to the principle that if its a BB its hope.  But are there better options out there around that sort of price range?  So in summary im looking for a screw fit BB to fit 30mm spindle.  Any advice or should i tread the old Barnoldswick path?

I've just swapped out like for like a Race Face Cinch bottom bracket ..after 18 months on a new bike ..

The Hope BB on what is now my son's Nomad has been going strong for 11.5 years ..which to me seems much better value even at twice the price..

30mm hope external on both our bikes with turbine cinch cranks. Work well but don't forget the specific hope spanner that is required. I also used so wheels manufacturing nylon spacers to fine tune chain line and stop me getting to the limits of the preload collar

It looks like i will shell out for another hope BB (had them on my old Oranges) so still have the spanner, albeit its round a friends.

It's pretty easy to swap bearings in the Race Face BSA30 BB (6806 bearings).  Just done mine for the second time in 3 years, so about 18 months per set.  I knock them out carefully with a flathead screwdriver and press in with a big bolt and oversized washers - can be done with the BB on or off the bike.

My previous cranksets all used cheap Shimano BBs and those used to die on me in a year while riding less than I do now.

Different tool for the 30mm so if your old one is 24mm, it won't work.

I have a Rotor one which is working well and comes with the 30mm tool to install it and other 30mm BB’s.

Onzadog, i have the 30mm Hope spanner.  Their 24mm version is a standard external BB size.

So Lornholio, we are on the same page i think..  I had some spare hope stainless bearings.  just cleaned them and repacked with grease then pressed into the raceface BB shell.  Its like new and will no doubt get me through the summer now.

Will keep an eye out for other options but will likely end up with another hope BB will take a look at the works version mind!

After three attempts with the RaceFace BSA30mm I've now fitted the Wheel Manufacturing one - bigger bearings has has decent, rubber seals not rubbishy plastic. Can't see why paying more for Hope would give any benefit - except for coloured anodising. Hope regular BB spanner will not fit the BSA30 - its bigger.

There seems to be some confusion here over a bloody spanner!! I was pointing out I own a hope 30mm external Bb spanner for use with hope BB when an earlier poster mentioned you needed a specialist tool.

The works headset sounds like its worth a go once my hope/raceface hybrid dies
