Hi all, after so help with removing a bottom bracket. It's a square taper one with the internal toothed surface on both sides. Only difference is that the drive side is metal and the non drive side is plastic. Should I just be fitting the removal tool into the teeth and turning? Which side first and which direction? So far I've tried turning the non drive side anticlockwise and it won't budge.

Many thanks as always!

Do the non-drive side first, anticlockwise, then the drive side clockwise. If you're not already, use a QR skewer to hold the tool in place.

The non drive side has loosened with some wd40, and that's off. But the drive side is having none of it. Nice idea about the qr but it won't fit through the middle, hole is too small.

Any other top tips?

Thanks!

pour boiling water over the BB shell. could help it expand a bit and then loosen it up.
it usually works for me.

I use a 24" pipe wrench on the BB tool which never fails to move them. If you've got a vice even better, as that gives you the frame itself for purchase. Failing that, hot water (on steel frames anyway) poured onto the BB area can help to free up the BB if it's not budging.

It's an alu (scandium if that means anything) frame. Will the hot water thing work? You mentioned if it's a steel frame.

I'm using a 3 foot pipe to increase the leverage, but no good. Can't see a way yet to fix the tool to the bb.

Penetrating oil such as Plusgas helps, you could also try doing it up a little then undoing it. I use a 24" breaker bar.
To keep the tool in, put the drive side back in and use the crank bolt through the tool and into the axle, depending on the tool.

I think my bb tool is a bit crap, as the only way to turn it is with a socket on the end, so you can't really attach it to the bb. Anyway, tried the hot water thing and hey presto it worked!

Thanks for all your help and advice!
