despite it being middle of summer I am drawn to the prospect of a CX bike (partly as I'd considered spending the money on a road frame upgrade, n+1 sounds like better value 🙂 ). Team rrp's at £899, Halfords currently have one of their regular 10% off deals so its ~£810 (I'm aware of BC discount, cashback sites etc) for alloy frame, carbon fork, Sram apex and BB5s. I've seen the Rose DX Cross 2000 which has 105 and BB7s, but is ~£1050 shipped.

(edit - after discs not rim brakes).

Any horror stories, ringing endorsements, or "you'd be a fool to pass on this alternative" observations?

What size you after? As EBC are doing 15% off at the mo, and you could get a M/L Giant TCX SLR 2 for £850:

Full 105-ish, TRP Spyres, carbon post/forks etc.

5'10 (177cm?) on a good day, so at the bottom end of their range for an M/L? I ride road bikes with 55cm TT's (had a 54cm ST Orbea, borrowed a 55cm ST Bianchi, now have a 52cm ST Lapierre) so poss the M/L too big for me? Cracking spec for the price.

Hmm. Might be a touch too big. I rode a small, at 5'7"/5'8", and that was bang on.

Shame, as decent price.

Anyway. As you were 8)

I bought a CX comp 4 weeks ago, was 10% off at the time plus bought vouchers at 10% discount plus 3% cashback so worked out at £470. Swapped wheels, tyres, tubes, cassette, pedals, saddle and removed interrupter levers, now 3lb lighter and rides great. EBay sales have kept total below £500. CX team looks great if you are OK with SRAM, but has same heavy wheels as the Comp (2.4kg!) so might deserve an upgrade there...

I am 6'2" and went for 55.5cm which fits great.

I've had mine for a year, in that time I've changed brakes to bb7 and wheels to some mavic crossone. Serves it purpose as a do anything type bike. Gets used a lot as a commuter with 28mm slicks on and as an out and out cx bike with knobbly tyres on.
Downsides, not many really. It's a bit heavy but that's no big deal.

there were problems and I think they pulled them from the stores for a while. Presume sorted now...

yeah I was aware of the (purely cosmetic) cracking (of weld filler), assume its sorted this year as they seem to have the same finish.

Shame about the Giant as that looked good value at rrp let alone reduced.

Check the Pinnacle Arkrose range at Evans. I got last years Arkrose 3, alloy frame and carbon forks, takes rack and proper Mudguards, BB7 discs and 105. Was bang on £1k. This years specs may be different.

If buying from Evans, and you have any Tesco Clubcard points, you can x2 boost them for Evans vouchers till the end of July.
