Planning an overnight ride in the Peaks, bivvying in caves a la Robin Hoods at Stanage i.e. not full blown cave, just somewhere to escape the weather and see some nice views.
Any hints, tips, recommendations?

my tip would be to avoid it during summer hols unless you like taking drugs with 16 year olds or drinking white lightning with 13 year old girls

Mmm, Higgar Tor. Only climbed there once and can't remember the cave, but a great spot though. Would rather be up on the dark peak moors than in the white peak dales.
Are there any legal rights of way for bikes up to Laddow rocks?
I seem to remember there is a nice cave/bivvy spot up on Derwent edge around the back tor area. Someone will doubtless be along in a minute to give a more accurate location.
Higgar Tor is overhanging enough to provide a bit of shelter and gives a pretty good view. Embrace those the white peak dales full of hidden gems (for bikes and climbs). Laddow has no legal track but has been a popular route for some into/out of Longdendale, it's really wet right now though and that cave smells like a soggy sheep thats been dead for month.
That's where the wolves and vampire bats sleep, so do remember your repellant spray.
trouble with Stanage is its popular and you can't leave a car by the road without it getting broken into. Thors cave can be damp and popular
The other problem with Stanage is Bill the warden is out and about early (6-ish) and checks on the caves.
You can always do it the other way round and ask Bill for a bin liner so you can bring the rubbish down and let him know if your vehicle is local. He may also let you in on some of the more sneaky locations for a bivvy out of the way and he won't come and give you a visit very early in the morning.
