Mate suggested bivvying next friday - having never done it before and having NO kit - any ideas on what to use/buy??

in weather like this, you don't need a lot - you'd be fine with a sleeping bag, mat and a tarp to cover you.

^ what alfabus said.
Cheap £3.99 builders tarp will do. Beg/borrow a bag and mat of someone.
Plan a ride so that you do down to cafe in the morning - easy in the Peak.
Depending on how 'regular' you are, take a trowel and couple of sheets.
I also prefer to change out of sweaty kit - shorts particularly - so take some spare grots to sleep in.

Disposable BBQ, some tinnies, and a few of those Chinese lantern things.

No real need for a tarp if the skies are clear and it's relatively warm. A basic / thin sleeping bag and some padding is probably all you'll need.

Disposable BBQ, some tinnies, and a few of those Chinese lantern things.
good call )

Sleeping mat, sleeping bag, Hip flask and a short walk to the pub.

Sorted! Enjoy!

It's great bivvying in this weather. We kipped under the stars, in just sleeping bags, at the bottom of Snowdon. It was fantastic to wake up to glorious sunshine, roll a sleeping bag up, then pick your bike up and head off riding.

If I could offer you only one tip... sunscreen would be it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists, whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience.

Given the recent fire started by a Chinese lantern i think it might be wiser not to bother, especially since everywhere is so dry and since your bivvying its likely you'll be out int he countryside, be nice if you didnt set it on fire 😆

Thanks.

Given the amount of fires caused by 'clueless' people who think lanterns are a good idea or set BBQ's on dry ground, i figured it was worth pointing out.

My chest, bivi and Orrin Reservoir. Kit never got damp on this but my synth down jacket was fine enough drying out draped over the bike after the ride up to the reservoir. The sleeping bag wasn't really needed. It dropped to about 7c and I'd have been fine on the self inflating mat inside the bivi alone. Two ample young ladies should guarantee a warm night's sleep.

Depending on where you are going, you might want to consider a midge net.

Midge net for site, anywhere in the uk, or plan to spend all evening in the pub

Its traditional to get a curry in somewhere en route too. For the full on 'Dutch Oven' effect inside your sleeping bag

I like how it makes me go to sleep at the right time.. and wake up at the right time. If you get a comfy spot and can afford to leave the bag open enough to not suffocate, you get a great nights sleep (with the all important earplugs) As you can see, I'm not bivi'ing tonight!

glad you had a good trip Rob. I ended wild camping of a sorts as I drove all the way to Glenridding to find the campsite I had intended to stay at was full. I ended up camping in the corner of a car park hoping someone wouldn't come and tell me to move on in the middle of the night. I cycled up Helvellyn and the weather was fantastic, as was the ride.
