[Closed] bit of quick help needed - insurer against damage of bike by baggage handlers?

I've been trying all afternoon to find an insurer to cover me for damage to my bike on an Easyjet flight, but they all only cover single items up to about £300. Easyjet's own maximum coverage is £820. The bike cost me £1,000, and will be £2,000 to get a replacement of equivalent quality.

This issue must have arisen with some of you who've taken bikes on planes - what do you recommend?

Maybe Sheldon Brown has an answer.

I recommend that you hand your bike over at check in and try not to think about it.

No - I recall a trip to Les Arcs in 2003 when someone's brand new unridden Tomac was taken out, uninsured.

Does anyone here have constructive advice? In a bit of a panic here - tried Snowcard, Aviva and Endsleigh - completely useless c***s

Check your home insurance - our bikes are covered away from home as well, and when I specifically asked about damage in transit they confirmed it was covered.

I've had a bike damaged too.

Still try not to think about it though. 😉

I don't have home insurance. Is it possible to get home insurance for a single day?

You want to worry more about not having insurance the rest of the time than just when going on holiday. No not very helpful but staggering you haven't got some form of insurance and yet worry about baggage handlers.

No not sure who will insure you bike in transit and very much doubt you can get one day insurance or even 2 to day as I'm assume you coming home again.

Live in rented accommodation, don't have any possessions expensive or irreplaceable enough to justify £200pa+ in insurance. Nb I'm not the only one in my office, and I work in a notoriously risk-averse profession to boot.

So in short, am I right in thinking that the majority of people on this board take their bikes on planes without any form of insurance or other risk mitigation despite the well-documented risk of frames being damaged/destroyed by reckless baggage handlers? Seriously?? This can't be the case. What are most of you doing?

Nope sorry still don't get it. For £200 you can insure all you goods including your bike so when you take it on such trips it's covered. I can't believe people don't insure their goods at home it's well documented that things get stolen.

I'd say there's more risk of damaging a bike while you're riding it myself.

My home Insurance covers my Bike too. Bottom line seems to be your going to need to buy some home insurance. I've looked for it before and couldn't find anything specifically for Damage in transit or anything of that sort. If you do find anything please post it, i'll keep watching this post. Thnx.
