Ha ha, perhaps it's not the place. Although in my sweeping comment I've now realised Giant and Trek made boring colour schemes for years.
what's the easiest way to determine dropper post drop without a demo
OK, so simple maths. On your current bike, measure from the middle of the BB to the middle of the saddle rails at the highest you ever want to run the saddle.
Then, subtract from that 70mm and the right seat tube length for your chosen size:
XS - 380
S - 425
M - 445
L - 465
XL - 480
The remaining number will be the maximum drop you can run. e.g. if you have 640mm from BB to Saddle rails on a Medium frame:
640 - 445 - 70 = 125
So you need a drop of less than or equal to 125, so a 125 or 100. One thing to consider is that you might not want to run the post at full height all the time, on an uplift day for example when you never want it fully up, but would like extra low, so allowing 15mm or so is a good idea in my opinion, so if this was your actual numbers, personally I would recommend a 100.
- ta. It's a bit more used close up but the invisitape has done a great job. Glad to hear the new wheels are working out. I keep my originals as spares for when we have our weeks away. On the dropper post thing, I love the 150mm. Really noticed riding someone else bike that had a 100mm on it and not in a good way.Your bike still looks great.
Mine Weighs about 30lb but there's nothing chosen to be light on there. I'll pick my mates Capra up and think 'wow that's light' but then I also think 'yeah but it's made out of hot string and araldite' 🙂
I got a the least expensive aeris in the line-up a year ago, but upgraded with a stealth dropper and a couple of other bits.
Almost 1000 miles on it now, and the only parts I've had trouble with are the bearings and pawls on the rear E1900 wheel (Ben very kindly helped me out with replacement bearings, thanks Ben!), and the raceface BB which I fitted new cartridges into for £13 so I can't complain with that.
I've had minion front and HR rear from new and don't see any need to change these.
Currently have a 32 chainring along with xt cassette and 40t expander, which has all done well, but I'll be replacing with a 34 chainring and a 11-42 sunrace cassette.
Overall, a great bike which I've been to some great places with and had a lot of enjoyment out of!
@ Alex - I have turbine cranks on my Zero and busted the original race face bottom bracket after 2000km. I invested in a hope bottom bracket and 2200km + later and the bearings are still silky smooth.
@paladin - might be worth checking with Bird on the 34T. They talked me out of a double because the Aeris is designed around a 32T front ring...
@tilly - I didn't even know Hope made them. Right then, next time I'll get one o those. I like the cranks and I've polished them smooth with my 5-10s so don't really want to retire them yet!
For the record a Monarch RT works perfectly well on the Aeris, no bob when set to threshold and lovely in open. Had a Monarch plus and DB Online on another bike so know how well they work.
Well, after quite literally months of faffing and trying to justify my first 'new' mountain bike purchase in nigh-on 20 years, I pulled the trigger on a shiny new Bird this afternoon.
Dave, same as Ben, was great to deal with. Now got until the end of August to wait (*read - do a massive purge of many bikes currently taking up room and brownie points in the garage).

Ok, I crumbled and went for lots of Hope'y niceness.
Bouncy bits - Monarch plus RC3 / RC Forks
Geary bits - XT all over with a 10-42 cassette (thanks for that tip off!)
Stoppy bits - Zee's with dinner-plate sized rotors
Spinny bits - Hope wheels, Minion/HR2
Sitty bits - Reverb / Spoon
Grabby bits - 760 bars/40mm stem - didn't bother with the carbon stuff
Shiny bits - Hope headset & seatpost clamp (turns out that, despite my earlier protest, I AM a complete tart after all).
When will XL frames be back in stock Ben? Also, any sizing suggestions for someone that's a leggy 6'3"?

I'm six three and Demo'd a L and XL. Much preferred the XL. Mostly because of the reach, standover isn't an issue as its a low bike with a short Seattube.
That was my thinking, cheers Stu. Deciding between an Aeris or an Airdrop Edit could prove to be tricky mind.
