I've never mountain biked and don't see myself owning a flat bar / hardtail bike anytime soon.
However I'm keen to explore local tracks on my drop bar bikes .. Salsa Fargos.
I've realised on going through forest tracks, with roots and small rocks, steep rises and drops, that I don't have great handling skills. I'm not sure at all what I'm doing. I don't go out with guys on MBs so can't get advice that way. I'm happy to keep at it and improve that way but wonder about a skills course.. useful for me on the drop bar bike? If so would be just a beginners MB lesson, or better to go with eg cyclocross (though I don't plan to race at all)?
Any recommendations if so..I'm on the east side of Bath (very near the base of Brown's Folly as it happens....)

Not tried them myself but have heard they're pretty good http://www.pedalprogression.com/about/ (Bristol based though) no clue if they'd do something more cross specific either on a bespoke course

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll give pedalprogression a ring.

I suppose that one way to progress as you'll have to have better skills on that than an MTB to get down the same trail
