Called into what is not my immediate local bike shop to buy two tyres at £45 (same on CRC was £38 ish). Approached the till and had to stand behind a group chatting to the owner. Group stayed where they were and owner reached out his hand, took tyres, scanned and took money from me while continuing to talk to the group. Passed tyres back, reaching through the group and I was on my way!
Yes, great value for money and service there and will not be going back. A bit of courtesy wouldn't cost much!
But perhaps this was just reserved for those in the owners clique.
GGGRRRRR

I don't even think to bother buying stuff like that at my lbs ( its not mine just that its closre to were I live ) Save your money and buy online. Darwins theroy applies to bike shops the same as everything else.

Looks like that shop has added itself to your 'only in an emergency list'. Risk is that it ends up on that list for everyone and goes bust. As Taxi25 aluded to - with shops it's survival of those that get it and add value

You haven't said if you paid 45 per tyre or 45 quid for the two, which would clearly have an effect on the owners perception of your potential spending power and knowledge and therefore level of service you'll receive. 🙄

absolutely spot on there fella
I'm sure a simple "excuse me" would have moved them aside

what were they talking about?

A mutual friend dying in hospital? in which case, maybe tolerable.

What tyres for Afan? Own them with Bombers.

They were talking bike talk. Possibly rep or similar. Yes I could have interupted their chat but that would prob have resulted in an even frostier service.

£45 for two. That must have been the problem!

I bought a loaf and some beers in Aldi this afternoon - the checkout girl was bordering on hostile. But I'll shop there again as I can't be arsed to walk the extra half mile to Sainsburys. Happens all the time. Some shop staff barely look at you - why should bike store staff be any different?
I'da been nicer than that to you though, "Mind out lads, while I serve this gentleman", exchange of plesantries, and everyone's happy.

Going back to the Aldi thing - they don't do baskets and don't take credit cards - how effing weird is that? 😆

Aldi staff aren't likely to be passionate about their job. Bike shop staff would be you imagine and that would reflect in service.

My LBS insult me and try to ignore me on a regular basis.
Then they give me big discounts, change stuff that's well out of it's warranty period, build wheels for the price of the spokes, give me cups of tea, show me there new trackday cars/bikes, ride with me, go down the pub with me.

But they're still a bunch of ****s. 😆

Your advantage SSSTUis that you are clearly a regular at the shop. The above tale relays my first (and last) visit.
