My bike set up technique usually consists of playing it by ear and bung it on and ride it.
Last month however i got a shiny new road bike and got measured and fitted professionally.
The question is, how similar to my road set up should my mtb position be? The front is obviously a bit higher due to fork length (and a long headtube). But should reach etc be similar?
Obvious discrepancies when i measured them back to back were, seat height (35mm lower on mtb) and drop from saddle to bars (road 60mm lower than saddle, mtb 60mm higher than saddle) and length (front of saddle to top of road bars 550mm, front of saddle to mtb bars 530mm)
So, longer lower stem? raise saddle? Any advice valued. Cheers
MTB doesn't have to be even vaguely similar to road bike position unless you only ride smooth tarmac on your MTB.
What he said. Ride what feels good on each bike. You may wish to be more stretched out on the road bike, and have the same seat height.
I've ridden road and mtb for years and never once considered that they should relate to each other bar seat height.
