Its nice to have the lumen power of the trout's and P7's, but what does everyone carry as a backup light? I was thinking of getting something small that runs on standard batteries (AA, AAA, etc) so I can carry some spares but with enough output to get me home if 'the big one' fails. Any suggestions or advice?
Nothing... I have 2 P7s, either one will get me home.
Run Hope Vison lights (carry a spare battery pack), with a cheap head torch in the camelbak if I need a pitstop.
Nothing. Use exposure helmet and bar mounted lights. They both have strobey type last for ever get you home flashes. If they both fail at the same time then i will rely on carrot vision. And any hoo, how far do you go on your own at night where you couldnt find your way back in the dark with no lights..
Nothing. Just the moon. Or else wait until dawn ๐
Knog Lights front and back for the be seen Factor if on a road other wise I use the force
Hope Vision 4 has plenty of life for our night rides, but in case of failure I carry a Fenix L2D
Something like this would probably do - http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12395
When I finally get my bastid the fenix L2Ds I've got wlll be relegated to helmet light/backups.
I usually carry a mini maglite anyway, just incase.... I might just add a few extra zip ties and duracells to my kit and that might save the day if (...when...) it becomes necesary....
an apkit gamma always lives in my pack, good for stops and repairs and what have you
Got a Fenix or a LED-converted mini maglite that live in my pack with a LockBlock for emergencies, but with my AyUps I've never needed to use them...
I carry Light & Motion Stella Double Eh as a backup light.
