[Closed] Bike insurance. Who's best for bikes through home insurance

I've had some daft quotes in the past so haven't bothered with it but really need to get some sorted and hoping there are some reasonable options out there.

I'm not bothered about having then insurer off the property, simply insurer in an integral garage and chained up.

House insurance quotes are coming in around the £120-£150 before adding bikes. How might are people paying extra to add bikes on?

Any recommendations greatly appreciated. I'm hoping not to see any daft quotes once I start adding bikes on.
It's daft you can insure a 200k house with 50k contents cover for £100 odd but adding a bike quadruples the figure!

Search on here there's a million threads. Darren or Hugh at pedalcover would be a good place to start for a quote. You'll pay about 5% of the value generally pedalcover I've found to be a bit better than that with less restrictions as you don't have to specify.

We went with John Lewis Bespoke home insurance to get the cover required.

M+S was always the default, but historic threads on here may explain that they changed their T+Cs. NFU Mutual also had several recommendations.

Direct Line will insure multiple bikes but only up 3000 per bike, 1000 max away from home.

We've got John Lewis special insurance. They've just changed it slightly so you only need to list any bikes over £5000

People recommending companies above - have you had successful claims with them before? Hard to endorse a policy unless you have.

Just got paid out by Halifax, £2k for one bike, £3k for another (full insured values).
Absolutely no messing at all, 1 phone call which pretty much went "what are they worth? What account do you want the money to go to".
Not cheap but brilliant service.

Haven't claimed admittedly, but John Lewis were painless to get the right cover with. No special conditions or security measures needed (other than "as long as the garage is locked") and cost is reasonable too.

When people quote the value of their bike do they discuss things like spare wheels etc? If you have a nice set of summer wheels they can be worth £1k on their own, winter wheels worth £100. Makes quite a difference to the valuation.

I've also heard a number do a new for old until 3 years old. That's ok if the bike is still in the original configuration, but what if you are a serial upgrader?

I'm with Direct Line Select who don't list bikes as separate items as long as they're within your (very generous) limit for possessions. Haven't claimed for a bike but have used their pet insurance twice with zero hassle.

When we moved recently they still worked out cheaper and more flexible than anything our mortgage broker (also a cyclist) had to offer.
