Hi all

I hope some one can recommend for me an insurance just for the time my bike is out of my site when traveling on a plane.
So just insurance for luggage.

It will be in the region of £2000 from Heathrow to Zambia with Emirates, with a quick plane change in Dubai.

I don’t need travel insurance unless it’s just for 24 hours as it’s a one way journey

Hope that make sense

Thanks Stoddy

@weeksy

No I’ve just purchased it whilst visiting family and am taking it back to Zambia when we return next month.

Ship it back and buy insurance for the package?

One way travel insurance is, I think, a "thing". But I don't know who does it so get googling. But if you're not a UK resident then you might struggle anyway.

I'd probably suggest Tom's route to be a good approach or when you're booking flights ask whether the airline can supply cover up to the replacement value.

This is alluded to here, but I've no idea how it works in practice.

Most travel insurance policies that are about delays and so forth are one way (the flight out)

Thanks for the ideas so far.

Markgraylish I purchased it 2nd hand so it was a bank transfer

Tomhoward it’s £100 to fly with it, and over £200 to ship plus the insurance, not trying to be a cheep but just sensible with the cash.

You can get bike insurance for a few days I looked at pedalsure and yellow jersey the other day.

But after reading the policies carefully I don't think its covered for when they are loading it onto the plane as its not in your possession which is what you need it for.

I gave up at this point..

Does your travel insurance have sports equipment cover?
Our home insurance covers theft globally.

If not, pay to ship it.

If its on a plane surely its covered for loss or damage anyway as part of your baggage? Mates had damaged snowboard bag replaced by airline and I know BA fully kitted out a couple who's bags they lost who were in the UK for a wedding... few years ago now though

Most travel insurance policies are for a round trip starting and ending in UK. Which is why the OP would struggle with that.

Only up to the limit in be Montreal Convention, unless they've bought the extra cover. Sounds like that's the way they've gone.
