My gf and I are planning a road trip through Europe this summer with van full of bikes and kitesurf gear. I'm keen to get good insurance against the gear being stolen from the van! What would be the best way to cover this - could it be covered by some car insurance or would some specific holiday insurance or even bike/kite specific insurnace be cheapest?

Household contents policy with 'away from home' cover would probably be best
most travel policies have a rather small single item limit
